Anyone ever negotiate a hospital bill?
Definitely call the billing department they usually will work with you, i am a medically biller for a local hospital and we try to help people as best we can. Some doctors dont let you drop bills but will work out a payment plan
medical bills can go against your credit IF you do not pay, even if u pay a dollar a month they CAN NOT hold it against your credit because they can not refuse u medical treatment so as long as your attempting to pay the bill your fine

it depends. we had a high ded HSA when DH injured his eye xmas morning (scratched cornea) about 3 yrs ago. We got a bill from the hospital for like $1800. I was unemployed at the time.
the hospital was St. Marys so its catholic affiliated. they had finacial aid papers that I filled out for assistance/lowering the bill. they lowered it to like $300 if we paid it in full. So thats what we did.
it was really ridic. for a 45 min visit and tetanus shot, eye exam. never mind all the subsequent opthamologist bills and surgery to correct the wound. Ughh.
definitely call and see if there are forms to show financial need.

ahh this makes sense. now that you said that maybe they did tell me the pay a very little each time they called!

Just spoke with the billing department and they basically said "That's the cost, and that's it"
I told them I couldn't afford it, and they offered payment plans.
Nothing off the bill

I asked if there's a difference in cost if the money comes out of my pocket instead of the insurance company and they said they never heard of such a thing.

That's crazy. I look at my insurance statements and the doctor always bills high and the amount the insurance pays is wayyyyy less. I would keep trying. See if you can talk to a supervisor. The charge sounds really high

What services are the copay for? I thought any services you paid copay for, that's your entire responsibility.
Just make sure the hospital bill is only for what your insurance EOB says you are responsible for.
ETA - my insurance discount for in-network hospital charges was about 50%. But I'm sure it varies by insurance.

Anyone ever negotiate a hospital bill?
My coworkers said to me I should call and workout payment plan to spread it over months. We had over $1,1500 after insurance agrees prices. Bill from Winthrop ped Er. three mo nth old stopped eating and peeling and dr and daycare said go to hospital. Well she peed and drank formula there and we got sent home no lab work. Huge bill. Thanks high deductible.

I would contact them again and tell them you can only afford $50 a month. They will take it. So it may take a few years to pay off but hopefully it wont be a financial hardship.
