Anyone ever buy stuff from Blackman plumbing supply
So I was in Blackman on Sunday looking for fixtures for the three bathrooms and kitchen I need to finish. First time I was ever in this store since everyone tells me fixtures at Home Depot are crap as they use plastic internal parts.
Of course I walk in and everything looks gorgeous. However NO PRICE TAGS on anything! Huge turn-off.
Especially when to get a price, you had to put your name on a stupid sign-in sheet and wait hours to speak to somebody because there are five people ahead of you.
I ended up walking out. Surely there is a better way to do this.
For people that have bought from there, are their prices negotiable? Why would I wait hours to speak to somebody just to find out the fixture I like is too expensive. Sounds like a horrible business model.

I went there when we were doing our bathroom about 2 year ago. I found stuff I liked and waited for a price and when she gave me the total I almost fell over. The prices from blackman were aound $3000. It was extremly expensive. Needless to say I ended up buying from Lowes/HomeDepot.

We bought all our bathroom fixtures, tub, toilet, sink, bathroom accessories etc from there. Overall, our experience was fine. We went on a weekday and didn't have to wait at all. Our contractor also told us not to go to lowes/home depot because of the plastic parts.
However, we could have saved about $1000 from buying the same stuff online from faucetdirect.com and faucets.com with cheaper prices, free shipping, and no tax. Live and learn...next time we will buy all our stuff online, but this was our first major project so we chalk up the expense to a learning experience.

I bought almost all of the things for my house from blackman, they have great things. The best way is to call and make an appt with a sales person so you don't have to wait. It is definitely more expensive then home depot but in my opinion some of the things are higher end

We went there. They wanted $100 more on the same basic bath tub (same brand and model #). I got it at HD.
I saved $$$$ shopping somewhere else. It was insane!

There is a reason they are priced higher for sure. The internal parts are all different when manufactured for places like HD and Lowes. We have gotten things at Blackman but DH is in the plumbing trade so he gets a discount. I find Blackmans showroom to be a huge turnoff. I've never once walked in and was offered help. We actually like AF Plumbing Supply in Holtsville so much better. Many of these places have huge corporate accounts so the reg person off the street isn't where they make their money and they aren't set up for that type of business. It's the type of thing where you have to know your prices and exactly what you want and then place your order through them.

I agree abt making an appt. All our stuff is from Blackman and it's gorgeous. Def worth the money.

I have heard of different quality on their faucet but the bath tub was exactly the same tub. We are talking 33% more at Blackman than at HD for the EXACT same tub.

What she said, we bought everything at blackman, service and quality was fine, this time around I'm going to do it online for the same products but a bit cheaper

I would have done the same as you and saved the $$. A bathtub is a bathtub. Anything with internal parts and such is different.

My parents got their fixtures from them and have had no problems. It was definitely more expensive than HD or Lowes, but honestly the stuff lasts alot longer.
I actually just got all my bath fixtures from Green Art in Freeport.

This is actually where my contractor is telling me to go. He said prices will be cheaper there.

Everything at black man you can find online. Faucets.com is great as are a few others. I have redone 2 bathrooms and got exactly what I wanted for ALOT less money. I have purchased sinks, faucets towel rods etc online and have always been satisfied. Everything I ordered was kohl but they have a lot of brands.

Blackman does have nice stuff, and def better quality than HD, but they had a faucet that I loved that wasn't going to be in stock for about 6 weeks so I went to efaucets.com & got the same Blanco faucet for $100 less. Shop around if you can, just make sure the quality is the same.

a lot of contractors send their clients there. the prices aren't listed so they can mark it up when they sell them to you if you were using a contractor.
if you are buying from them as a homeowner, you should call and make an appointment. its still a turn off for me that they have to keep looking up prices for you especially if cost is a factor on an item (which is for most people), but at the end of the day, they usually carry better products then HD. they do still carry a few lower end things with plastic parts, so you sort of need to know what you are looking for or trust them to tell you about it.
they have a strict return policy but they def. stand behind all the products they sell even years later and can always get you unique products or parts when something breaks or is discontinued.

i went there when we did our master bath remodel.
i learned (the hard way) to make an appointment... i got our bathtub, toilet, shower faucets etc from blackman... but wound up getting the sink faucets that matched, towel rack etc from faucetsdirect.com to save some $. i am very happy with what i did get from blackman though, and their service.
