Anyone else's DC not really into the pacifier?

DD is 4 1/2 months and just never took to the pacifier. When she was a newborn she would take it for a minute or so before spitting it out, and lately we hardly ever bother offering it bc she spits it out right away. We've tried a few different kinds. I'm thinking at this point maybe it's good bc we won't have to wean her off of it in the future, but at the same time it would be great if it offered her some comfort bc she cries almost every time we put her down to get something done, so I feel like I'm holding her all day just to keep her happy. And she still doesn't fall asleep on her own, so I was wondering if the pacifier would help with that if she actually liked it? She's just starting to learn how to suck on her thumb, so should I just stop trying to offer the pacifier and let her do that?

DD is 4 weeks and doesn't like a pacifier either. She won't keep it in her mouth herself, and if she is having a crying fit we try to hold it in her mouth to help her calm down. It will work for a few minutes then she doesn't want to be bothered with it.

I feel the same way. I am glad she doesn't like it....but then she doesn't have anything to help soothe herself. Hopefully it won't be a bigger issue as she gets older.

Yes. Ds is 1 and has never wanted a pacifier. He always spit them out, so I stopped offering them early on.

She used to like it, but only up until 3.5 months or so. Now she could care less about it. I am glad in a way that she gave it up herself so easily, but it was definitely easier to get her to sleep when she did like it, that is for sure!

My daughter can take it or leave it. There are times she will want it and others times shell turn her face and not want it. She is 3 weeks.

My DS never took one. I need no reason to try and force one. If they don't want it they don't want it.

Mine don't really love it either. They like it in the carseat and that's about it. However if I find them trying to suck their finger, I put the paci in bc I figure its easier to wean them off the paci rather than their thumb.

Both of my boys didn't take to pacifiers. They spit them out, so I gave up after a while.

They both started sleeping through the night at 9 weeks old. They learned to soothe themselves. They never became thumb suckers, either.

It was nice not having to bring pacifiers when we went out, or have to pop one back into their mouths in the middle of the night. I hear that weaning them off can be a hassle the longer you wait.

Also - my son's dentist said that long term pacifier use ( over age 1) gives an increased chance of needing braces. So I consider myself lucky!

twins are almost 12 weeks and never took it..sometimes we wish they did

Yes DS prefers his thumb which I hope won't be a hard habit to break

Yup ds never liked it and im thrilled. He learned to self sooth. Slept through the night by 8-9weeks old. He is 2 and a half now and so glad we didnt have to deal with stopping him from using them.

For this baby on the way I dont think im going to to encourage it much.

They kinda gross me out also

DD was the same exact way word for word. She also started sucking her thumb early on but never often, just every now and again. When she turned a year old she became a full on thumb sucker. Not much you can do with either trying to get them to take the pacified or trying to get them not to suck on their thumb.

Yes! I wish he was. He seems much more interested in his fingers, which you can't really take away. I still offer it in hopes that he'll change his mind.

ETA: Not that the pacifier is much better. My DD is 2.5 and I don't have the heart to take hers away (she only uses it for sleep, but she is sooo addicted).

dd is 7 months and never took the paci. i tried recently again and she spits it right out. yes its good because i wont have to wean her off of it, but i really wish she would take it sometimes to soothe !!!

My younger DS never took a pacifier. I'd think it'd probably be easier to wean a paci than a thumb since it's always there. So maybe I'd offer the paci whenever you see her going after her thumb.

My dd never took it either. 8 months old still hates it. Tried again since having some sleep issues but she still hates it. I look at it as 1 less thing to wean her off of.

DS never wanted anything to do with it. Always spit it out. Occasionally he would suck his fingers but that stopped too.

With DS, I did everything to not give him a pacifier.
I tried it with DD and she showed no interest.

My DD is 4.5 months too…we gave up on the paci at 8 weeks. I bought 4 or 5 brands and she hated all of them. She found her hands around 8-9 weeks and sucks on those a lot.

She is good about being put down….certain times she wants to be held but other time she is ok on her playmat or in her swing. Just keep trying!!!

Oh and DD cries before every nap and for bedtime. She cries 5-10 minutes and then falls asleep. I wish she would just fall asleep without crying!

DD used to LOVE it. But, between 7-8 months she just stopped wanting it. I'd give it to her and it would go in her mouth and she'd spit it right out.
