Anyone else suffering from allergies right now?
I was hoping they weren't going to effect me, being that they were late and figured my pregnancy hormones made them disapear for now...I jinxed myself b/c last night and today my eyes are super itchy, throat is itchjy and I am sneezing and coughing like crazy!
My Dr. is obviously not in today being it's Sunday. I usually took a generic Zyrtec. I know that I can't take it b/c it's not safe right now. What do you girls witht he same allergy symptoms as me take that is safe?

Re: Anyone else suffering from allergies right now?
I have no idea what to take.....I had to just go to bed last night really early bc I felt so terrible. It turned into sinus pain, which turned into a headache, and the a post nasal drip which gave me an awful sore throat. I felt horrible....today is a tad better but I havent been outside yet. I dont know what to do. It stinks! Feel better

Re: Anyone else suffering from allergies right now?
I was at the WCS Walk for the Wild at the Bronz Zoo yesterday - I was sneezing and coughing the whole time and could barely breathe! What a nightmare.
My friend who is dune at the end of June said her doc said it's OK to take Claritin, but obviously check with your doctor first! Also, I've been told Benadryl 50mg is OK by my doc, but I'll only take that at night.

I have such sinus pain. I'm usually not like this, I think pregnancy is making it worse, so I have no experience with medication.

My doctor said pregnancy exasperates allergies He said Claritin was okay did not ask about Zytrec. Your pharmacy should be able to answer that question

Re: Anyone else suffering from allergies right now?
I'm suffering too. My allergies have been BAD this season.
My OB said that both Claritin and Zyrtec are okay, as is Benadryl. I'd rather stay away from them if I can, but I've taken Claritin and Benadryl a few times so far, no problems.

Re: Anyone else suffering from allergies right now?
I suffer so bad and yesterday was the first day of it really being bad for me
I take clartin all year round because its safe. benadryl is also safe.
I know I have read that if you go outside, wash your face as soon as you get in and don't touch your eyes , and limit your outside exposure for now, especially on windy days!
I had such issues last night that I rubbed vicks vapor rub under my nose and it worked with great relief! I'm not sure vicks is safe but it doesn't say anything on the side about not using while pregnant so I used it.
I used to take 2 perscrption allergy meds all year round, so this stinks, but I keep reminding myself its worth it in the end!!! I stopped taking my meds last june and I don't remember my allergies being that bad so maybe we will only suffer for 4 weeks
here is a link and text from mayo clinic
Allergy medications are sometimes recommended during pregnancy. Before you take any medication during pregnancy, however, it's important to weigh the severity of your symptoms against the possible risks to your baby.
Loratadine (Claritin, others) is considered a category B drug — which means that animal studies haven't shown any risks to unborn babies whose mothers take the drug. Still, category B drugs haven't been adequately tested during human pregnancy to offer any guarantees.
Rather than depending on allergy medications, you might consider other ways to manage your allergy symptoms. For example:
Avoid triggers. Limit your exposure to anything that triggers your allergy symptoms.Try saline nasal spray. Over-the-counter saline nasal spray can help ease nasal dryness, bleeding and congestion. Use the spray as often as needed.Rinse your nasal cavity with a neti pot. Neti pots are available in most pharmacies. Once or twice a day, fill the neti pot with warm salt water or an over-the-counter saline nasal solution. Then tilt your head over the sink, place the spout of the neti pot in your upper nostril and gently pour in the water. As you pour, the salt water will flow through your nasal cavity and out your lower nostril. Repeat on the other side.Include physical activity in your daily routine. Exercise helps reduce nasal inflammation.Use nasal strips at night. These adhesive strips (Breathe Right, others) can help keep your nasal passages open while you're sleeping. If these tips don't seem to help, remember that allergy medications aren't necessarily off-limits during pregnancy. If you want to use allergy medications, work with your health care provider to choose the safest drugs for you and your baby.

My doctor said pregnancy exasperates allergies He said Claritin was okay did not ask about Zytrec. Your pharmacy should be able to answer that question I went o Rite Aid to ask a pharmacyst and she said that she recommends Benedryl only one every other day but that I should really try not to take anything and go the natural route. She also recommended taking showers often to eliminate the tree pollen off my body and out of my hair and to take an aveeno bath soak.
I am going to try to NOT take anything but, this is going to be hard b/c I suffer really bad with my allergies.

Thank you! I know! Who wants to stay indoors on such a beautiful day like this though?!

Re: Anyone else suffering from allergies right now?
I just wanted to add, that anyone suuffering with allergies should really contact their ob before taking anything. i was on singulair before gettig pregnant and everything you find on the internet says its safe. When I asked my ob, they said while it "claims" to be safe, they have a phone number that dr's are required to call and register patients on, and they are then required to call in any and all side effects of the drug. My Dr said that when they see this on a medication, they usually advise against using it, because those numbers are set up for drugs they really don't know all that much about. its sort of safe until they know better.
they left it up to me and I chose not to take it. while I'm suffering terribly with these allergies, I'm not i any way putting my baby in danger so I opted not to take it.

Re: Anyone else suffering from allergies right now?
i've been sneezing and my nose has been runny the past few days cause of allergies. and last night my eyes were so watery. it's really annoying. im not taking any medicine for it though. DH's allergies seem to be worse cause he has the post-nasal drip, a cough and sinus pain.
