Anyone else see Dr. Barandes for thyroid issues?

I saw Dr. Barandes today for the first time. He goes to Dr. B's office every other Tuesday. I thought he was so nice! He wants me to go for a thyroid ultrasound at his Manhattan office, and gave me a prescription for 1-thyroxine in case today's bloodwork results still indicate an elevation. My TSH for my bloodwork in August was 3.2, when it should ideally be between 1 and 2. Yet another thing to add to the list of things that are "borderline" with me!

I was just wondering if he was treating anyone else here, since I haven't seen anything about him on here, and he is Dr. B's BIL!

Hi Jackie,
I saw Dr Barandes years ago to check my thyroid (before my MCs) and I was borderline too. I really liked him.

Thanks! Did he prescribe medication? I'm so hesitant to start taking something that I will have to take forever if I'm just borderline.

He didnt bc I was only bordeline and it was pre-MC so he just had me get tested periodically to see if it got worse. It was the first thing I mentioned when I started having MCs but the RE said it was still bordeline and likely not the cause. Had I not gotten PG so quickly with the RE I would have explored it more with Barandes. Good luck Chat Icon Chat Icon

I know I told you it's a life sentence. Feel free to check me out on that. I hope I didn't freak you out too much. No matter what you do here, it's not going to be the end of the world. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Don't worry, I'm okay. Still waiting for my blood test results. He said someone would call me, but if I don't hear by early next week, I will call them. I will go for the ultrasound, and then will definitely go for a second opinion.

FYI - My RE checked my TSH yesterday morning and called me with results by 5:30pm. So, I think the time it takes for results is a product of the lab/ office, not the test itself...

Jax.. def get a 2nd opinion before you go on any thyroid meds.

My TSH level was borderline when i had it tested with Dr B (it had previously been tested every couple of months with the other RE and was always fine). I was going to go on medication to bring it down a little, but when i had it tested again twice this past month, both times it was perfectly normal. So we're going to keep testing to keep an eye on it.

If your numbers are borderline, perhaps it was a one time thing and it fluctuates.
if so, i'd seriously rethink if its necessary to be taking the thyroid meds

and yes, TSH blood test results came back same day with me too. no reason you should have to wait much longer.
