its so scary!! I really REALLY want to try vaginally. I know my gyn office is big c-section people. GRRR. I'm telling them upfront and my DH knows.

if you're really determined to avoid an unecessary section (obviously, there are always legit reasons for one!), and you suspect your Dr. may prefer sections over vag births, I suggest you either switch physicians, or at least get a doula. that's a labor coach who acts as your advocate in the delivery room..... she'll help you position yourself for comfort, avoid drugs, and help you progress more naturally.

one medical study showed that when a doula was present at every delivery in a particular L&D ward, the cessarian rate dropped from over 30% to 16% in a matter of a couple months.

HTH's!

Yes..and I could go on and on about this but I don't want to upset anyone or get flamed.

This is the reason why I am using a midwife and am planning a Home birth with the option to deliver in a hospital if need be.

I worked in L&D and I know many of the reasons of why women get pitocin and c-sections so often.....much attributed to the lazziness of OB's

In todays world every woman HAS TO BE THEIR OWN ADVOCATE...... Do your research know what you want and STAND UP FOR YOURSELF..........

Enough said.............

Do you think some dr.s lie to their patients about the status of the baby or the babys health to convince them they should get a section? I have wondered this....for example cord wrapped around the neck

I have never seen a physician LIE about something like the cord being around the neck but I've seen them just order pitocin because they wanted to rush a delivery because they were tired of waiting, or tell a mom that the baby was in danger because the heart rate went down.... which is called a decelaration and is NORMAL in labor....... Doctors who tell women after 10 hours of labor that they are failing to progress and putting the baby at risk and that they need a c-section when in fact for a first time mom normal labor is 18+ hours and as long as the baby and mom are doing fine there is no reason to just have a c-section.

Basically I've seen Dr.s that are impatient, want to leave by a certain time and don't want to be called in. Drs that want to push labor along faster by using medications such as pitocin which increase your risk for a medical complication because they don't want to wait.

I'm not saying all doctors are like that but a lot of them.............. It's scary what I have witnessed first hand.........

yeah, you confirmed what I suspected... I can totally see them saying to a patient 'We're going to put you on pictocin, ok?' they may say what the drug does, but I bet they never inform the patient of the potential risks involved, or the REASON they feel they need to speed up labor.

Actually, I've seen that exact scenario on 'a baby story' tons of times Chat Icon

On 'the business of being born' they said that section rates are highest at 5pm and 11pm.... right before dinner time and bedtime... hmmmm, wonder why!

YUp...... Whee I was working, a teaching hospital noetheless, unless the patient was a midwife patient or the MD wrote orders to not put the patients on pitocin ALL women were put on pitocin. They had a protocol for it so teh RNs didn't even need a MD signature. THey would go in, hang the medication, hook up the IV and tell the woman we are just giving you some medication to help your contractions and 9/10 times NO ONE ASKED what it was or questions it Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I was dumbfounded.... I was so angry when I was there for those women who didn't ask questions and for the medical profession for treating labor as an illness.........................
