Anyone else have a really sensitive child, discipline wise?

My DD has been having a lot of what DH and I are calling "closet moments" Chat Icon Chat Icon lately. Whenever she is chastized or told not to do something, there is a good chance she will drop everything and hide in her closet. Then she yells and screams. I tried letting her sit and stew a few times, but then she told me later she was angry at me for not going to her immediately. She won't come out of the closet unless I literally pick her up.

Help!

Your DD sounds a lot like mine. She is not yet 4, but she is so sensitive to any criticism, even if offered gently. When she does something wrong, even an edge of harshness in my voice will send her into tears. I did wonder at times if she was manipulating (i.e. "I'll cry so I won't get in trouble") but I think she really is that sensitive. One time she dropped blocks near her baby sister who was sleeping, and my mother chastised her (thinking she was trying to wake the baby, or annoy her). She cried. Months later, she still would put the blocks down gently and say "I did it quiet, see, I did it quiet!"

I did get a book called The Sensitive Child, and started reading it, thought "wow, this has great advice" then forgot what it said, and haven't had time to read it!

Yep, my 3 yr old does that except she jumps in her bed and pulls the covers over her head. I usually go in after a few minutes in which she tells me I'm not her best friend anymore.

Glad I'm not alone.

I'm going to look into that book, thanks!

DD is very sensitive.
when she gets in trouble you say the smallest thing and she just gets so down.
she usually goes to a corner and stands there ( i have not used this as punishment she does it to herself!)
she is very hard on herself on a daily basis so i try and be careful how i displine her although its probably my fault how she is.
