Anyone else get this?

I don't usually post on this board-- only on TTC, but now that I am officially being treated by RE-- I will have a lot more questions and will probably be on here more. So, hello officially.

Anyway, my past two cycles I have had chemicals-- and I am now in my 2WW-- on 5DPO actually. My doc prescribed the progesterone suppositories at my initial visit-- which was just Tuesday (5/13). I am waiting to get all of my bloodwork back, which should be in about a week-- and by then I will know if I am pregnant or not. If not, I will do my HSG and then use my blood work to determine the action plan with my doc. I also had a sonogram before seeing the RE and all looked good and normal.

What has been my problem-- is that starting at 4DPO, I start to get spotting. I was *really* hoping that since I was using the progesterone this 2WW, that even if I did not get pregnant-- I wouldn't have the spotting. Well, I do-- and in fact it looks slightly worse because of the "leakage" from the suppositories-- but, there is just no way to tell if it's different than my previous cycles because it's comparing apples to oranges.

So, here are my questions:

For anyone that had spotting in the 2WW, and then got treated by an RE-- what ended up being the issue?

Also, for those who used the progesterone suppositories-- did you experience any spotting during the 2WW?

Thanks! Chat Icon

Welcome! Hopefully the girls on here can answer all of your questioins! what color blood is it? bright red or brownish?
I'm sorry to hear you're going thru this. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I've never taken progesterone suppositories, so I don't know much about them. Did your RE check your progesterone last month, during your 2WW to determine that ths is the issue, or are they just doing what they can for this cycle for where you are- since they don't want to do any other things while you're in the 2WW?

Re: Anyone else get this?

The color is usually brown. Sometimes-- like, crazy dark brown-- and others, pinky brown. But-- always in the brown family. Now with the suppositories-- it's harder to gauge, because it's brown mixed with the white medicine.

The doc is just doing what they can for this cycle, since I only first saw her on 1DPO.

One of the side effects from the suppositories is brownish spotting. My RE gave me a sheet that stated this and I have also inquired about it on the phone.

Ok, brown is good sign, I think. It could be implanation spotting, even though it seems a little early. Bright red would worry me, b/c that's new blood.
Is your dr going to check any bloodwork while you're in your 2WW? Progesterone or otherwise? I know your progesterone will be altered, but maybe it would give them a hint as to if they thought that was the issue...
also are they going to check your beta rather than just have your take a pg test at home? Maybe they could determine sort what's happening--- if you're getting PG and having an early m/c (and I hope they don't determine that- I hope the progesterone suppostories are enough!!!! Re: Anyone else get this?

I have had early miscarriages the last two cycles-- and so far, my 2WW is similar to my last two cycles.

No blood work during the 2ww.

My doc is doing testing to figure out why I have had the pregnancy loss and testing for all the other things imaginable at this point-- they took A LOT of blood.

I do also have a short LP, about 11 or 12 days-- but that could have been altered due to the early loss.

If I get a positive HPT, I am to go into the doc that day and have a blood test to check my #s.

I think until you have a full cycle with the RE its going to be hard to determine what is going on.
I agree with MrsMessina that you should have a progesterone check during the 2ww. If your P4 is too low then they can increase your dose for next time, or perhaps you might need PIO.

She will probably do all that next cycle...

I was just curious if anyone else had something similar, and what the end result was.

I never had that happen when I was taking them, but the fact someone else said it could be a side effect, it sounds like it happens to some people. Good luck!

Re: Anyone else get this?

I'm not sure what the dosage of progesterone is that you are on, but my guess is that it's not high enough if you are still spotting.
Spotting is a sign of low progesterone, especially so soon after O. You should call your RE and ask them to do a Progesterone level check - AGAIN - somewhere around 7DPO, even if you are on the suppositories it will give them an idea of how much more to give you.

Good luck!!

I just had back to back chemical pregnancies so feel free to FM me. I am now in the process of extensive testing for repeat pregnancy loss.

Re: Anyone else get this?

Well, I just spoke to my doc and she said that the spotting with the progesterone is normal-- so, no need to be concerned.

So, I will just finish waiting out my 2WW and then do more tests...
