Anyone change formulas because of gas?

I think my baby is really gassy and it makes her uncomfortable. She is on Similac Advanced now and the ped said she's fine but I really don't think she is. She kicks her legs, arches her back and just is crying in pain. I want to switch her formula and am going to call the ped tomorrow about it and insist. Did this happen to anyone else? And if so, what did you switch your baby to and did it help?

Thanks girls! I hate to see her in pain - and she cries so much at night - after she eats she'll be so fussy. And the mylicon drops just don't help!

I know how you feel. I hate to see DS in pain with the gas too. He is on his 5th formula. He is now on Good Start and I think he is doing much better on this one. If you feel the formula is making her really gassy I would try another one regardless of what the ped says. It's your child you know her best. Chat Icon

Merideth, I am BF but supplementing with formula. DS was on Similac and had bad gas pain. He is now taking Enfamil and is so much better.

I would switch to another one.

I dont understand why my ped doesnt want to change her. I was told Good Start is a good one. I am going to suggest that tomorrow and see what he says.

Anyone else? I'm just so sick of the ped saying she's fine- this is normal.

Re: Anyone change formulas because of gas?

We took Emily to the pediatrician when she was about that age due to a lot of gas and she seemed to be in pain when having a bowel movement -- and the doctor recommended (and gave us samples of) Gentleease by Enfamil -- it had partially digested milk protiens -- so it was still a milk based formula but was easier to digest.

It made a big difference, that we noticed right away. She still had a little bit of gas but it wasn't that bad, and eventually it got better as she got older. We switched to Good Start after a few months because it was cheaper and also had the partially digested protiens and she did very well on it and was on it until we weaned her to whole milk at a year old.

Re: Anyone change formulas because of gas?

yes...we did without consulting the Dr. She was VERY gassy when we first brought her home from the hospital so we bought Soy Formula when we ran to the store. I was unaware of all the other milk based formulas, so I instantly thought she might be lactose intolerant (DH is and I can be).

She was still gassy at times, but it was better. Many times it's just something they grow out of

Yes we changed from Similac to Good Start. It has comfort proteins to help digestion. I noticed a change the next day.

Re: Anyone change formulas because of gas?

Yes, not to the extent that you have but DS was on Similac and switched to Good Start and seemed better although he did spit up more but I was told that is due to the "comfort proteins" and not a big deal. Good Start is made to be easier on the tummy.

Re: Anyone change formulas because of gas?

Hayley started on Similac Advance then we switched her to Enfamil Gentlease. She was much better with the gas, she still had a little but nothing compared to the way she was on the Similac. If you think it will help, switch formula, it can't hurt.
