Any mommy breastfeed and use formula?
How did you work this out? Did it work well for you and your baby? TIA!

When Kristina was first born I did.... it was fine.... I pumped and stored, and fed her formula, then I would give her defrosted BM a couple of feedings... it was fine!

works great for me. I think its the best of both worlds. He gets all the advantages of BM, and I get the convenience of formula (for when I'm not with him, don't have a bottle pumped and/or don't want to nurse in public).
I think too many people think BFing needs to be all or nothing.

I was also nervous about BF and all the reading I was doing was discouraging BF and formula. But about a month ago I started giving DS formula 2 times a day along with BF or giving pumped breast milk. He'll be 11 weeks tomorrow and though he prefers the breast milk he will take the formula as well. So, don't freak out whatever you decide it will all work out.

I am doing this b/c I am going back to work and don't have enough stored to give her all BM in bottles. She will nurse when with me and I will give her 50/50 of BM and formula. i have started her on this already to get used to it b/c there was bottle issues and getting used to the taste of formula issues so I wanted her to be used to this by the time I went back to work.

I EBF my DS for 6 months and then started to introduce formula here and there for times when I was out and didn't want to nurse in public. I never pumped to make up for the missed feedings and my milk supply tanked.  By 8 months I stopped BFing all together because I hardly had any milk. I'm sure I could have pumped to get my supply back up, but I didn't have it in me. I hate pumping!
My DD is 6 months now and hasn't had a drop of formula. I'm afraid of how it will affect my milk supply. I'm hoping to be able to EBF until I can transition her to milk and skip formula all together.

I BF(pump) all day and give 1-2 bottles of formula at night. Did this with my DD as well and it works great for us.

I EBF for the first 3 months, then introduced formual when I went back to work - but I still nurse her first thing in the morning and give her a mixture of pumped BM and formula. I use similac - but your ped will probably have a preference.
One word of caution is that when your baby is a newborn you want to BF as much as possible to build up your milk supply - otherwise it never really gets a chance to develop and you will not be able to keep up with BFing. Its especially important for the middle of the night feedings - which stinks b/c then you have to get up in the middle of the night to pump or nurse...

With my daughter I mixed breast milk and formula once I was done pumping and breast feeding in order to stretch out my supply. So she had breast milk until she was about 11 months old and was only on just formula for about a month. I am planning on doing the same with my son starting next month. I would simply mix them in together for each feeding and she had no problems with it.

My DS had a "clam" reflex and wasnt a good latcher- I pumped and gave Similac Advance for the 1st 8 weeks before switching over to formula only. I had no problems at all with supply so it worked well for us. Pumping is time consuming, that much I'll say so I'm not sure if 'll be trying again this time around having a toddler to chase after

I EBF for 8 weeks, introduced the bottle then with only pumped BM and continued nursing & pumping.
At 9 weeks I intoduced Similac Organic (my prefence because I use organic, but it's just like Similac Advance only the organice version). I nursed morning, before bedtime and in the middle of the night (he was starting to sleep through the night at this point so it was only 1 time a night for a week because by 10 weeks he slept all night).
By the time he reached 10 weeks (he is now 17 weeks) this was our schedule:
nurse morning & night before bed and during the day he takes his bottles 50%BM and 50% formula. I also pump in the moring before nursing, once at work ( I can not possibly find time to do it more though I would rather do 2 times) and right before I go to sleep at nght.
DS had no nipple confusion because maybe 3 times a week we would give him a few ounces of BM once in a night in a bottle to top him off after nursing because he was still hungry.
But try to BF only for at least a month....it will establish your supply and keep pumping after to keep it up!!

I supplemented with formula when I weaned, but when I was having a really rough time in the begininng my doctor told me that she would rather see me supplement with formula and breastfeed for a longer period of time, than exclusively BF and quit earlier.

Same here. I felt guilty though every time I used the formula because I kept thinking DD needed to be "exclusively" BF'd. I would supplement more with our next DC. I think they are still getting the benefits. I supplemented with what they gave us to take home from the hospital: Enfamil Lipil. It seemed to work well for DD.
