Any BTDT mommies have a cold or sick when they delivered - please ease my mind...
At 39 wks pg my DS that never gets sick got a cold and its been tortuous - luckily nothing serious but, the cough was enough to keep him - and therefore me up all night. He has been fine for almost a week but, the cough is still lingering.
Now, I have it - so far it's just the coughing and the chest congestion but, my due date is in two days and I am nervous now - nervous about going through labor and delivery not able to breath, nervous that chest congestion this far along is a very bad thing and nervous that my newborn will get sick from me right off the bat. I'm praying she will continue to stay in - and god has been listening so far - but, did anyone have this situation and did it turn out ok?
TIA

I had a stomach virus 2 days before I delivered DS. I was still tired & weak, but it turned out okay. Feel better!

I had pneumonia when I delivered, although I didn't know it at the time. Talk about not being able to breathe! My baby was fine - she didn't catch anything from me as I was sure to wash my hands constantly and not breathe/cough on her.

Re: Any BTDT mommies have a cold or sick when they delivered - please ease my mind...
Well first of all, if you do have a cold, your baby will be born with the antibodies.
When I delivered I had 102 fever. I did not have major cold symptoms, but I did have a cough, postnasal drip that I was coughing alot during my csec and afterwards. Although it hurt, it did not hurt my incision at all.
Also, I was worried DD would get sick b/c we never really knew WHAT i had, what caused my fever, etc. But I kept being told that since I had it prior to her delivery, she would have the antibodies.
DD was born, I was worried to see her, my fever did subside but they kept telling me it was ok. I still tried NOT to breathe on her though. Anyway, in the end, she never got sick and all was ok.
I am not sure if I was really sick as I did have a cough my whole pg from a drip, and even though I had a high fever, I had no other symptoms (other than the fever caused my amniotic fluid to be burned up,so make sure if you have a fever to address that).
But your DC would def be born with antibodies if you are sick while pg.

THanks so much. That sounds so hard Thank god it hasn't gotten any worse - I don't have any fever - it's just the congestion which, unfortunately is mostly in my chest. I'm pretty sure I got it from DS and his really never got worse than the congestion (he only had a low grade fever for one day) so hopefully mine will be the same or better. Although I am due tomorrow and SO ready to meet my daughter I'm hoping she holds out just a few more days!
Thanks for responding. All these posts are making me feel so much better!

Re: Any BTDT mommies have a cold or sick when they delivered - please ease my mind...
I took (2) Z-packs the weeks right before I delivered DD. DH was getting over Pnemonia. All turned out to be OK. I would suggest antibiotics if you are still sick, or DH. And, just try to get some rest- that helps...

I had the same story. I had a fever while I was delivering, DS was sent to the NICU for antibiotics. I had a horrible cough in the hospital, killed me with the c-section. The doctors told me that DS was born with antibodies and couldn't get sick from me.

I had the flu about a week and a half before I had DD and still had a lingering cold. I was fine and so was she. Dr. actually said it was good I got it before I gave birth because she was born with my antibodies to protect her against it.

Very similar story. I might add, that DD wasn't sent to the NICU at first. She was even a month early but very large and doing great. But then by the pm of delivery, she started grunting (fluid in the lungs). So we demanded she be reevaluated and off she went to the NICU where she was then given prophylactic antibiotics and stayed there for 2 days. It was all unrelated to me though...just a bit of fliuid in the lungs from the csection.
Very similar story!

I had a terrible cough when I had my DD by c-section. The cough really got a lot worse right after delivery, they kept worrying it was pneumonia but I ended up being fine. Coughing hurt, being that I had a c-section, but the baby was fine and never caught anything!

I had a terrible cold and my throat was killing me. I was sooo upset and nervous to hold DS. Ped said not to worry as he already had my antibodies.
