I have heard that rear facing in the infant seat is the safest option as long as the baby still fits.

You can't use an infant seat forward facing, so rear facing is the only way in that regard.

What I meant was that continuing to use the infant seat is the safest and being rear facing may be a reason for that, as rear facing in the convertible seats is also considered safer. I know someone who was so excited that her baby got big so fast, that she switched seats at about 5 months and never did rear facing with the convertible seat. The baby was really still small enough for the infant seat and that is preferable in terms of safety, or so I have heard. She could have waited.

Not only should she have waited, she was SUPPOSED to have waited! It is 20lbs AND 1 year!! That is incredibly unsafe! And I moved my son at a year to forward facing, but that is just too young!

In my car DD is still backwards & fine, she just kicks the seat, but in DH's car she's forward. I think we'll be changing her in my car soon (that's the car she's in 90% of the time).
