Antibiotic ear drops v. oral meds for infection?

Has anyone been prescribed ear drops instead of oral drugs for their child's ear infection? If so, did they work just as well?

we got ear drops but it was just for pain
and it helped...along with oral antibiotics (which didn't seem to help) we had to do 3 rounds of antibioticsChat Icon

Yes I got ear drop antibiotics for her ear infections but only after the tubes were put in.

Never asked why but it kinda makes sense. The fluid behind the ear drum is what's infected and making them sick. Without a tube, you'd be putting drops on the ear drum which would be super sensitive from the sore and fluid behind it. It would hurt and it wouldn't get to the 'source' of the infection and be a waste.

Before tubes we always had oral antibiotics.

Both ways have been the same length 10days if not longer on the drops and depend on how bad the infection is to really gauge how fast it works.
