Another Wedding Q Spinoff...
Do you really base your gift to another couple on what they gave you?
We don't because
A: If they are from a different part of the country, they don't give as much $$$ as we tend to.
B: They may not have been or be in a financial position to give a $200 gift.
We usually give the same amount at most weddings and maybe a bit more to really close friends.

Many of my friends got married around the same time as I did-either before or after- all those who came to my wedding after theirs gave me what I gave them... I had a wedding the month after my own wedding- we gave that friend the same gift they gave us. Just seemed to make sense to me...

We just got married recently, so when we go to a wedding we will give them what they gave us, especially if the wedding is within the next year. Before we got married, we gave what we could afford.

nope...we give what we can afford , I never even wrote down what others gave us, I opened all the cards and had no clue who gave what an hour afterwards, cause any gift was gift enough to us.

us too- b/c I would never want to give them less then they gave us-
but it is not the only thing taken into consdieration unless we can't decide what to give- then we take the easy way out- most people gave us about the same that we would normally have given anyway with in $50

We tend to give what they gave us and what we can afford. We had a couple friends who gave us a lot more or a lot less than we would give so we ultimately gave what we felt comfortable with. For everyone else, we pretty much gave the same thing because it was what we would have given anyway.

depends - but yes it is a consideration. typically, we do use it as a guide.
except i had a close friend, who was in my BP, who didn't give me a gift and though part of me wants to "return the favor" when she gets married later this year, i know i won't. i'll give her a nice gift regardless..

We give the same generally. We give close friends more. However if someone were overly generous, I would feel obligated to the up the amount

We got married last year - we're trying to reciprocate what each couple gave us, but now we're in different life scenerio with a house and other responsibilities, so we give what we can afford.
