Another question.. When you have a painter come in ..
Does someone need to be home at all times? How does that work?

Re: Another question.. When you have a painter come in ..
When I had my painter here, no one was home, because at that point I had nothing in the house, nada, we were not living there yet.
A few months after moving in we decided to have our kitchen done, someone was always home then. To be honest, it wasn't as much my material things, as it was my dog. I would be too paranoid that one of them would leave a door open or something. Some may feel different. I'm from queens, we usually aren't that trustworthy

ITA. I would not leave them home alone unless I knew them either. Maybe I would if they were a friend of a friend or something. My brother is a carpenter and my friends and colleagues will leave him alone in their houses, and give him keys, but its only because he's my brother.

I've let a lot of contractors work in my house without me being here, My kitchen took 3 months so there's no way I could have been here everyday. I would have my parents pop in every now and then. I never gave them a key though. I would give them our garage code and then change that when they were done

If the house is empty you don't need anyone there - you either give them a key before you change your locks or be there to let them in. I you live there it is probably a good idea to have someone there but I know a lot of people if they trust the person will just randomly check in - but I wouldn't leave valuables in the home (jewelry, papers etc)
