another PG Teacher question
I am not telling admin. or any of my coworkers until I am showing. But I was just wondering if I should tell the school nurse when i go back to work on tuesday, just in case anything happens?!

I dont think you should tell the nurse until you tell admin. If admin finds out you avoided telling them, I think they may get testy about it. And EVERYTHING spreads through schools like a bad STD. Thats the feeling in my school anyway. HTH

Re: another PG Teacher question
I'm just about showing but I still told my Principal and my grade level co-workers in case of any problems arising. My principal is great though and didnt mind at all that I'd be out for a few months.

I did. If fifth's disease or something else goes around she will definitely be able to notify you asap! She cannot legally share any of your health info with admin or anyone w/o your permission.

Re: another PG Teacher question
My nurse automatically sends an email to all teachers if someone has fifths, as well as posts it in the office.
Depending on how close you are with the nurse, I would base my decision on that. But I would choose someone (hopefully there is someone there that you can completely trust) and tell them, just in case something happens and you can't speak for yourself.

Re: another PG Teacher question
TELL your school nurse!!! with all that goes around schools, you have to be safe, especially fifths disease..
it is confidential and the nurse should be helpful and there for you

I did, so I would know if anything was going around. As a professional the nurse should maintain confidentiality.

Re: another PG Teacher question
i told the nurse right away, that is protocol in my district. i told the nurse at 5 weeks, and admin i told at 12 weeks. it is a safety issue, i would tell the nurses.

yes she can. it's not right, but it's not illegal. she is not your doctor so there is no doctor/patient confidentiality. morally it is wrong, but she can gossip all she wants.
for that reason i did NOT tell my school nurse at all until she learned through the grape vine. when she asked why i didn't tell her, i said that i didn't want her telling people. in my school they notify everyone immediately if there's fifths or anything.
the first test you should ask for during the first bloowork panel is a fifths disease test. i knew i was immune so i didn't worry at all.
i told my principal when i was 5 weeks. i wanted her to know why i had to leave school early and i was not going to lie to her. she was wonderful about it and it made it easier to ask to leave early once in a while when she knew why. i told coworkers at 12 weeks.
