Another new mommy ? Heating bottle?
Do you heat/warm the bottle before you give to DC? Is it necessary?

It's a personal choice IMO, but I always gave room temp and never had a problem.
Only time I ever heated the bottle was when we used RTF and took it right out of the fridge, but we switched to powder after a short time.

the nurses in NICU told my husband we should for some reason ... i think it might prevent gas or something like that. So we did and honestly i wish we never did. I premake DD bottles so they are always cold and it is such a pain when we are out try to warm it so she can drink it. IF we ever have another child i do not plan on heating them up.

Its a personal preference. We have heated DS's bottles from the very beginning.
Of course now that he is no longer on formula and just drinks regular milk, he refuses to drink it cold. So we still warm up his milk. I do it long enough to take the chill off, not at warm as when he was on formula.
I'm trying to ween him off the warm milk, but my mom is old school and she believes he should have it warm. Plus she watches him M-F so I don't argue what works for her

The RTF from the fridge I did b/c it was cold. We have the instant hot on the sink so that helps. Just put the bottle in a big cup and add the instant hot. Let it sit a bit.
He's on powder now so I give it to him at room temp. Keep the Brita on the counter.

both my kids drank straight from the fridge or at room temp.
its a personal preference, but i have heard some horror stories where kids wouldnt drink cold milk either once they were off formula

I did heat up bottles of RTF when I used it.
My kid was OK taking to milk and drinks it now (15 months) from a regular glass COLD.
But, in the morning, I think it's nice to have a warm glass of milk.

I am using powder formula also and mixing with bottled water and then heating in the bottle warmer since I keep the bottles in the fridge, hmmmm maybe I will just let them get room temperature.

Since we use the RTF formula and keep it in the fridge, we use a bottle warmer to bring it to room temperature.

Oh this thread is making me think I'm a big shmuck with all my heating! I hate doing it but I thought I had to!
To answer the OP, I heat them all but if it's okay not to, I wouldn't start it. It's a pain when we are out.

My son was in the NICU for a month bc he was premature. We heated my expressed breastmilk from the fridge to room temp before giving to him.
We continued to do that until he was 3 months old. One day I gave it to him straight from the fridge and he was fine. Oh my lord, this made my life SOOOOO much easier!!!!
We would take bottles out with us in a little cooler and give them to him straight from the cooler. If I was in a store, no running around trying to figure out how to warm it. If we were out eating, no asking for a glass of hot water. Etc etc. If he started crying, I could give him the bottle immediately, no waiting to heat it. MUCH MUCH MUCH easier. And made the transition to regular milk much easier too, since that's always cold also.

my twins were in the nicu for a month and a bottle of Breast milk was warmed there. we warmed for the first few weeks then tried not warming. It saved soooooo much time.
We do warm the bottle before they go to bed, tends to settle them faster

I did because my DD wouldn't drink it cold. I just warmed up her bottles in a cup of hot water.

Me too! This may seem mean but I didn't want DS to get spoiled with warm bottles. I wanted him to be able to take a room temp bottle if I was out. Now that he's drinking regular milk he loves it cold. Not sure if that would be the case if I had warmed his bottles of formula/BM

We heat the bottle with a bottle warmer... So annoying! If its not "just right" DS will suck it in then spit it out. Little diva!

you don't have to let them get to room temp...
Don't make ahead and pre-mix. A lot of people on here do that but with powder formula I personally never understood the point of that. Make it as you need right in the bottle with room temp water...so bottles never need to go in fridge...KWIM?

We made a whole day's batch for two reasons. First is that it saved time for us. And second, most importantly, we couldn't shake bottles to prepare them because it caused too many bubbles which then caused crazy gas and irritation for DS. So preparing ahead of time eliminated that problem.

We always (and still do) make formula in the Dr. Brown's pitcher to save time and honestly, I believe that the powder/water ratio is more consistent that way, IMO.
So we always heated water in a tall chinese food container in the micro and warmed the bottle in that.
I have given DD room temp/cool bottles without a problem when we're out and about.
