Another Christening Question...
We put off Emily's Christening for 7 months because we dont have the money for the big party -- and finally just decided to do a small BBQ with immediate family. So what do I do about everyone else? Do I invite them to the Baptism at the church and then tell them we're not having a party, or tell them it's just a party for immediate family? Or not invite them to the baptism at all? I don't know what would be the proper thing to do!

Re: Another Christening Question...
I would just keep it to immediate family plus godparents (if they're not immediate family) - and if anyone asks just say you're doing only immediate family.
That's what we did.

Re: Another Christening Question...
People have been asking like crazy when we are getting her christened ... so they won't be offended if we don't invite them at all? Do I even mention at all that we're doing it?

Re: Another Christening Question...
I would say that u are doing it only if they ask but be honest and say its just immediate family. I know its rough but u can't please everyone... but most people shouldn't be offended.

I had the same issue. I told everyone that we are doing only immediate family. I personally do not think everything has to be an MGM production! JMO

but did you invite them to the church or not mention it at all to them unless they ask. i'm just worried that people will get mad if i don't tell them we did something after the fact but i don't want them to think that i'm inviting them to the church but not the party because we expect a gift or something like that.

I would just tell them its just for immediate family. I wish we would have done that for Ryan's because this christening has way to many people coming.

Re: Another Christening Question...
Gosh, this is a tough call.... You don't want to offend anyone or have feelings hurt. I know people will always say "oh they will understand", but the truth is, people do get offended. I had to vote "don't invite", because I know that if you are making the offer for me to attend the church, well I would expect to then come to the "party". It is just etiquette I guess... All the best with your decision, it willn't be an easy one... I know, been there in the past when I was getting married....

Why say anything? I would invite the people who you want to the chruch and the after party and thats it. If anyone asks about it later on, just say it was family and godparents that came.

Re: Another Christening Question...
Literally though -- the people coming to the party are my mom, dad, FIL, BIL, BIL's daughter, my sister and her DH, my brother and his DW, and my younger sister and her boyfriend. That's it -- I just feel like my aunts and uncles are going to be so mad.... but we just can't do more then that. I have SOOOO many aunts and uncles.

I would tell them what you just wrote if they say anything, that you cant do more then that. I'm sure they will understand. I have a lot of aunts and uncles to and it can get out of hand sometimes. Hope everything works out!

Re: Another Christening Question...
We are also keeping the Christening very small - just immediate family and a few friends - i did tell a few people the date of Julia's Christening and then told them that we are just having a small dinner with family to celebrate - I don't think it bothered anyone at all whether or not they were invited or not.
We just didn't want to do anything Huge.
