don't quote me on this but I had heard somehwre that it was based on position in a company and what their occupations were.

The reasons are a mix of things:
-the insurance policies of the deceased (both privately owned and those from their jobs)
-job pensions, 401K's, social security.
-the settlement amounts were based largely on how many dependents were left, and the estimated earning power of the deceased, had he/she lived.
So the settlement for a dishwasher with no life insurance, pension with 2 kids and a wife would be considerably less $ than an executive level employee, who is estimated to have a much higher estimate dearning power.
Even if the dishwasher's family needs the money more.
That does not account for the undocumented workers.

don't quote me on this but I had heard somehwre that it was based on position in a company and what their occupations were.
Strictly from an insurance perspective that makes sense...the settlement is supposed to make up for what the deceased person would have earned, not to make the survivors wealthy.
That doesn't change the fact that Coulter is a heartless, woman-hating, b*tch IMO.
