and this mag cover is ok
i dont like kanye west to begin with nor am i a religous person...but its ok to replicate jesus on the front cover of ROLLING STONE OF ALL MAGAZINES?  Image Attachment(s):

And that cover photo sickens me even more 
edited to add: yes he is entitled to do it, its a free country, free press... but its still inappropriate IMO
Its just lame to me.. can't he just be known for his MUSIC and not be constantly associated as someone who blatantly attempts to ruffle feathers and stir up controversy?

I don't know if I would blame him for the shoot.
Blame the photographer and the magazine editors. Its usually the magazine that decides what pictures get the cover. They were obviously going for controversial so people would talk about it, like this.

I think that the picture is trying to convey not a literal meaning but the meaning behind it. I think Kanye is a great artists. I don't agree w/ his views on political issues but I do like his lyrics. He's different than many of todays artists. I would think that he feels "crusified" since he's under a microscope. By his fans, the media & the music industry. I don't like pictures depicting Christ since I am Christian and I don't take his suffering lightly. But I would blame the photogropher.
ETS: Do I think it's OK...No I don't.

This guy Kayne has no class he is disrepectful towards the lord Jesus i mean yea I would blame the photographer but i also blame him for doing the shoot because he could have said No!jesus dies on a cross for us wearing that on his head he was tortured so for him to imatate the crown on his head like that I find it Disgusting! Im sorry but this is how i feel!

Exactly..
I don't think the photographer put a gun to his head and "made" Kanye pose with a crown of thorns on his head, depicting Jesus' suffering..
Most of these artists and their 'management" can decide whether or not to do certain cover shoots, etc..
Puhleeze, he's an attention whore.. he loves the controversy that follows him...
added: to be perfectly honest, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Kanye came up with this idea himself ... not the photographer/magazine or anyone else..

Usually photographers for Rolling Stone come up with their own ideas for the photo shoot... not always- but usually. If the photographer just shot what he was told to shoot- then of course don't blame him.

Hey, no doubt that Rolling Stone is trying to sell magazines.. they are gonna get TONS of attention putting a cover out there like this. Plus Kanye is already controversial, the magainze will fly off the shelves like hotcakes..
Good marketing ploy if nothing else.. but it still disgusts me

I think this is the goal exactly!! There was a time when Rolling Stone was so great- now they can barely sell magazines.
Personally, I don't think its appropriate. I just don't think Rolling Stone should use religious imagery to sell their magazine.
ETA: There could have been several different shoots with different themes. I'm sure not all of them had Kanye wearing a crown of thorns. In the end, it was the Rolling Stone editors who decided to go this route.

THAT is the very reason I am so disgusted at seeing a cover like this... the implication and/or comparison that his life is in ANY WAY similar to Jesus' is just horrific to me 
Sonia, on principle I cannot buy this magazine but if you do, I am curious as to how Kanye will explain himself as to why he (or the magazine) chose to depict himself like this
