Re: amnio preperation
I wouldn't think you'd need it. My doctor told me that I could take 2 Tylenol, 2 Advil or 1 glass of wine afterwards if you need it. I didn't have to take anything.

Re: amnio preparation
Of course you are! At least for me the anticipation was the worst part of it.
The needle/shunt part of the test took less than 5 minutes. The whole thing was probably less than 20. For me they first took a peek at the baby, then brought the Dr. in to do the test.
Are you meeting with a genetic counselor too?

Re: amnio preparation
well if my husband and/or puppy do not shoot me 1st (i am obsessed and neurotic over this).... i know i will be ok. well i think i am meeting w/ genetic counselor at 8 and appmt at 10. I am really not happy about this time lap but...... the amnio was just confirmed b.c i switched drs..... anyway, i am so not into this genetic counselor sh!t, i really dont want to talk about this anymore w/ a counselor or anyone and just get it over with. I am nervous enough then have to listen to m/c risks etc, but they said it is mandatory....

Re: amnio preparation
I didn't take anything before- they told me no food/drink several hours before. My total time in the office was 1 hour. That is from waiting in the waiting room, being prepped by the sono tech, having the sono and the Dr coming in to administer the test. The test itself took about a minute or two. Just make sure you drink a lot of fluids after the test and to not lift a finger. Lay on the couch or the bed for at least 48 hours... 72 hours if you can. If you have cramping, spotting or other out of the ordinary symptoms, call the Dr. Even if you think it is small and/or insignificant. Good luck.

YES! That is weird!! I got an info sheet before I left the test outlining what I can/cannot do. #1 was: Keep off your feet for 48-72 hours! Where are you getting the test done?

Re: amnio preparation
Try to focus on the positive thing- you will get to see your little one throughout the procedure! The amnio itself is such a small aprt of it. The sono you have takes a nice long time!

My doctor is a high-risk doctor that performed about 4,000 amnios and he told me the same thing..."next day business as usual"...I trusted him but took off from work for 3 days anyway....don't worry, you will be fine...
GL to you!

Re: amnio preparation
A high risk doc did my amnio with my regular OB. I was told to stay off my feet for two days. I should have stayed off for three.
As for prepping before hand, I did not take anything nor was I suggested to do so.
Good luck!

Re: amnio preparation
I was told to stay off my feet the day of and to resume normal light activity the next day. I wouldn't be concerned that your Dr. said you could work the next day especially if you sit at a desk.
As for the genetic counseling it really gave us peace of mind to hear from a professional that she thought we were going to be okay. Try to stay positive!

Re: amnio preparation - UPDATE ON BOTTOM
I hope you are doing ok. I don't know for myself (I'll know next week) but my friend did spot a little afterward. She didn't leak fluid, though.
Hope you are doing ok, now.

Re: amnio preparation - UPDATE ON BOTTOM
I can't say for sure but I think I was leakier than usual. I tend to be very leaky as it is though so it was hard to tell. The only reason I think yes is because I seem to be less leaky now almost 3 weeks later.
Did they do a FISH test too?

thanks for your response. i am doing ok. its lessening, i think it is urine... and the reason it happened after the amnio was becuase they made me hold my pee for so long to do sono for amnio i mights have stretched my bladder or something... thats my non-professional opinion (but i am going to drs tonite to double check)..... i am no longer concerned b/c it is such a minimal amount. good luck next week. it really wasnt too big of a deal, more emotional then anything... obviously relax the day of amnio and honestly 2 days if not 3 after. i went back to work 2 days later and it was alot for me. i wish i stayed home.
