Amio question

Has anyone had one and when did you have? What was the reason you decided to have one?
We are waiting for results next week on our ultrascreen, so far the neck measured good, to make a decision but then was thinking of waiting til after the level II.

I am scheduled for an amnio on 12/6. The sono from my ultrascreen was fine, but my bw came back with an elevated risk for DS. I had an amnio for my first also. That ultrascreen/bw came back fine, but my 16w bw came back with an elevated risk. For my first I had the amni at 18w. For this one, I will be 16w. The amnio is usually done between 16-20 weeks, so after the level II, they may not do it unless there is a medical reason.

After your level II it may be too late for one. I think they do it between a certain amount of time. Good luck

I should be done between week 17 and 20is. You might be able to push it to 21 or so.

I had mine done at 17weeks. The thought of the process was way worse then the actual procedure. The actual amnio took all of 10 mins and did not hurt it was just stressful.

I skipped the Ultrascreen because 1. due to my age there was no way my results would come back amazing. 2. There are too many false results with the test and I don;t believe it should even be used. 3. I just wanted to know!

I would not wait until after your level II if you are going to do it. The level II will give you measurements and if everything is ok in that sense but the amnio test for actual genetic makeup and if there is any abnormalities that might not show up with measurements alone.

I had one with each pregnancy. I was 37 with my first pregnancy and 39 with my second. I had a family history and multiple losses one of which was determined to be of chromosomal cause. I had pretty good numbers from all other screening for someone my age. There were no elevated risks. It was a relatively easy decision for me and my husband. My doctor did not encourage or discourage our decision. I was not concerned one iota about risks from the procedure. My mom had one with me in 1970 when there was no sonography. It was pretty much feeling around and sticking her with a needle and she was 6 months along.

From my best recollection, they were both done between 16 and 17 weeks long before my level 2 s which were at 20 weeks.

I was told we can get it after the level II aka 20 weeks. I'll have to look in to that again.

i had one because the head to long bone ration wasn't too good. but everything came back fine. it was probably because my bday just passed when i was getting the level 2 so when they plugged in the numbers, the ratio didnt look good. but the amnio gave us more comfort

I had one with my first pregnancy. The bloodwork from the ultra screen came back with a high risk. My doctor did the amino at about 15 weeks, it took a month for the results to come back and unfortunately the baby had a chromosomal abnormality
The procedure itself of the amino wasn't bad, just be prepared to take it easy for a few days afterwards.
