Am I overreacting? UPDATE
I picked up a script from CVS for my DS, I was already angry Bc they called me to tell me the script was ready, but it apparently wasn't since I then had to wait 20 mins when I got there (no line).
The ped. always adds a flavoring for my DS Bc he knows my son has sensory processing disorder so it just makes it easier for DS and myself. The pharmacist didn't add the flavoring, and I called to ask them what happened, just in case the ped. didn't write it etc since they faxed the script. The pharmacist then blames the doctor saying she didn't write it large enough, and then blames me saying doctors don't usually write it and it's the families responsibility. She said they can't add the flavoring after it leaves Bc of the ratios etc.
Now I'm pregnant, so clearly hormonal haha, so I'd like to make sure I'm not making this bigger than it is. But I'm pissed off this lady took no responsibility, and put the blame on the doctor and myself. I'm also a bit worried that she said it was on the script and they missed it, so they aren't reading the full thing. what would you do? Part of me wants to let it go and go to a different pharmacy, the other part of me wants to complain. But what am I actually looking to get out of it? It's not as if I want her fired lol, it was a mistake, but I do think she should learn from her mistake, yet she doesn't feel she made one.
Thank you to whoever reads my long rant lol. I feel better just venting about it lol.
UPDATED: So when I tried speaking to the supervisor the pharmacist took over the call and got very angry I was "making this such a big deal" I actually didn't plan on using her name, but now I plan to. My DH is now taking over and bringing it to corporate since the supervisor decided not to speak to me nor call me back.

Re: Am I overreacting?
Bring it back to the pharmacy and ask for it to be corrected.
And then in the future, always ask to make sure it's flavored before you leave. If you keep having issues, then consider changing pharmacies. There's so many to choose from on LI so that's not a big deal.

Re: Am I overreacting?
I'd be pissed. Anything having to do with my kids riles me up even more. I would go back there and ask to speak with the manager of the pharmacy and make them redo it.

Am I overreacting?
personally, I would probably let it go. It was a mistake. Should she have said I'm sorry, I apologize, etc.? Yes. But she didn't. There's really nothing you can do at this point, unfortunately. If you want to complain about the pharmacist, as to speak with the pharmacy manager - but this isn't something I would go to corporate over. As for going to a new pharmacy in the future, that's up to you... if you get regular, monthly medications it might be difficult making the switch, but if you DO make the switch, try to find a local mom & pop store - they often provide MUCH better service... and leave the CVS/walgreens/riteaids for when you need 24 hour services. (I say this having worked for CVS/Pharmacy years ago as a pharmacy tech, lol.)
ETA: I think it might be worth bringing it back and trying to get them to redo it - I hadn't even thought of that (wow am I out of it).

I'd ask them to re-do it. It's 100% the pharmacy's fault. They didn't give you exactly what the doctor prescribed.

Re: Am I overreacting?
Thanks everyone!
She told me they won't redo it, I would have to have my doctor rewrite the script and pay again. My DS said he would suck it up, that I promised I wouldn't let it happen again (since I'll for sure double check from now on lol).

Ok so I'd call and tell the supervisor what happened. If only to make them more aware to read ENTIRE scrips. I'd also change pharmacies
And your ds sounds amazing. Let him chase it with a candy bar or something.

Re: Am I overreacting?
Complain and have her re mix a new bottle. it's CLEARLY on the script, written by the doctor. It's not your responsibility or fault that the pharmacist didn't read the scrip fully -
Everyone makes mistakes, but really? She SHOULD have owned up to it and remixed you a new bottle. It was CLEARLY her error.

I think these are my next step! Thanks guys! I'm so glad I wasn't overreacting for once hahah
He really is! He started gagging and getting so upset, but turned it around so fast, I was so very proud of him! He's so sick that he turned down my candy peace offering, so I'm pretty sure at the end of the 10 days he will have a new Lego set lol

You have to Call back and ask to speak with a supervisor. The pharm did not read the entire script and the consequences could have been much much worse. Plus the fact she won't take responsibilty is very worrisome.

Re: Am I overreacting?
I'm glad your son is going to be able to tolerate it at least. This whole thing sucks. Honestly, if it were ME, I'd talk to the supervisor. Not to get it fixed at this point or to get anybody in trouble (you don't even need to give the pharmacists name if you know it). I'd just want them to be aware of the situation so that it can be corrected in the future. If they are getting sloppy with reading the full script then that's not ok! Not when you're dealing with pharmaceuticals. If you can talk to the supervisor then at least s/he can talk to the employees in order to possibly prevent them from continuing to be lazy with it. If you just let it go, then you risk the problem never being solved in the future

This.
Not overreacting as well, ESPECIALLY considering their reaction after the fact.

I totally agree. That's a medication error, it's a big deal. Luckily it's just a flavor that was missed. Could have been a much bigger deal, they obviously need to be more careful. I'm shocked at the reaction they gave you!

Re: Am I overreacting? UPDATE
Id be pissed. On two occassions, CVS has screwed up my prescriptions and again, same thing, tried to deflect blame. The first time they gave my (at the time) infant son a DOUBLE DOSAGE of what he was actually prescribed. Luckily, I ALWAYS check my scripts bc if I didnt it could have done VERY SERIOUS damage. They put someone elses script (for the same medication) in our bag. I get human error, but when you are dealing with peoples lives, be it dosage or in your case the WAY they need to take their medicine their should be QUADRUPLE checks in place so that cant happen. If I were you, Id be ALL OVER FB and Twitter.

Am I overreacting? UPDATE
CVS is horrible. My insurance forced us to use CVS, and I had so many messed up scripts. Actual wrong pills, dosages, refills, etc.
It got to the point where after they gave me the scripts before I paid I would stand at the counter and open up every single script and make sure it was the right pills, the dosage was right, the count was right, etc.
They looked at me like I was crazy, but once you pay for it you're screwed and they won't help.
You shouldn't have to do this, but unfortunately as with most medical stuff you have to be the advocate and double check the work.

I would switch, I left Rite Aid to go to a locally owned pharmacy. Much better service.

This is the exact reason why we aren't letting it go now. While my DSs script was only missing a flavoring, it could have very well been something serious missed, and because she is so defensive it makes us believe she's done it before and trying to make sure it isn't brought up. So glad that you were able to catch their mistake before it did any harm to your DS, that's honestly so friggen scary. I didn't think of fb and Twitter, my DH is expecting the GM to call him today, if that doesn't happen, I will be going to social media, thank you!

Re: Am I overreacting? UPDATE
It must be location specific. I find that my CVS is super accommodating. My thyroid medicine was recently changed and when they filled my script they gave me the old dosage. I didn't notice until I got home because they're a different color. I brought it back in the next day and they switched it out for the right one no problem.

Re: Am I overreacting? UPDATE
It must be that location, I agree. DH once accidentally left my meds in the hot car. We called to ask if they'd be ok. The pharmacist said they'd be fine, but we could bring them back and he'd exchange them all if I wanted new pills.
