Am I being unreasonable? UPDATE
DH and I went for the level II last night and found out the sex. DH then called his parents and they DONT want to know what it is... and I could totally understand if this was the first grandchild but its the 6th!!!!!!!!!!! So I cant even register for gender specific things cause they have to be difficult!! Last night I felt like picking up the phone and when she answered just yelling it in the phone!!!
Am I just upset cause I want to tell everyone and cant?
*****UPDATE******
WOW Two full days of trying to figure out what I am going to do.........and FINALLY DH tells her its a BOY!
Thank you all SO VERY much for all of your Support!!!

Re: Am I being unreasonable?
Um, I think THEY are wrong, honestly. It's your baby, your decision. I say register for what you want to register for-- why should you compromise just to keep the secret from them? If they don't want to know, they don't have to look, they can buy things another way.
Sorry you're going through that!

Re: Am I being unreasonable?
Register for whatever you want! It's OK if they want to be surprised, but that should NOT affect how you register, decorate, etc.

No, I don't think you're being unreasonable. How is this THEIR decision? What does DH say?

ITA! If you were just annoyed that they don't want to know, I'd say yeah that is unreasonable. BUT it is beyond selfish to expect you to not register for the things you want so that they can be surprised. I say just give them a heads up not to look at the registry.

No- not OK. Register for what you want- if she wants to throw you a shower, that's fine, but she doesn't get to control your experience.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?
I agree with the above posts. That's not fair, it's YOUR baby. People told us the same thing, "don't tell us the sex when you find out." Well I came back with: - "you'll find out sooner than later because I'm registering for either a boy or girl." do what you want and what makes you happy. You obvisouly wanted to find out to prepare for the upcoming registering and planning!
Good luck!

Exactly. She can do gender-neutral colors for decorations at the shower if she insists, and if she wants to buy you stuff off of your registry, she can have others look it up and tell her what to buy, or buy it on her behalf. She's being SELFISH!! Don't budge, it's your choice with your DH!
ETA: Congrats on finding out! Don't let this overshadow your excitement with your DH!

Re: Am I being unreasonable?
Just let MIL know that you will be registering for gender-specific items, if she doesn't want to know, tell her a few of the neutral items.
I don't know what she can do when it is time for the shower, but that's her problem. Don't let her rain on your parade!!!! Go out and buy all the pink/blue stuff that your heart desires!

Re: Am I being unreasonable?
i agree with this above posters - this is YOUR pregnancy, not hers. if she doesn't want to know, tell her to hide under a rock for the next 20 months. she doesn't have to look at your registry to throw you a shower.
tell whoever you want except her - she'll find out eventually. too bad.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?
I would assume you have a pretty decent relationship with MIL since she's the one hosting your shower, so I would just talk to her. Tell her that you understand she would like to be surprised, but that you would like to register for gender specific things. Tell her that since you know, you don't want the baby's stuff to be all green and yellow. She may not have even thought about it from your perspective.

Yes, I do have a good relationship.. but she is very pushy sometimes...
