Alternatives to cable

My cable bill just keeps going up. I'm sick of it bc I only really watch a few shows on the higher channels. I'm trying to cut my bill down. Does anyone subscribe to Hulu or anything else to still get the shows they want? I know Netflix is mostly series and old movies. Can you stream Hulu to PS?

Or Aqueduct Flea Market. Sigh. Those were the days.

To the OP: Have you looked into the Roku box?

You can absolutely stream Hulu to PS. We stream Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime and still save about $150 a month on cable! If you're looking for alternatives for other rooms where you don't have a gaming system, check out Roku boxes! They are cheap, extremely easy to set up, no monthly fees, and you can stream all the above services and more.

I've been without cable for about a year and I don't miss it even a little. The only thing that it does stink for is sports. I believe X-Box has rights to NFL packages that you can't get on PS3 or Roku. And we don't have Xbox! Boo!

Yupp, we still get basic channels. We even still get NY1. I don't know if that's a fluke, but if so, I'm not telling! Chat Icon

I'm looking to do this too. My cable bill is way too expensive and I hardly use it. What is the difference btw Roku and Apple TV?

Anyone have any good deals for internet only? I am currently running a big antanna in the atic and run netflix. I currently have cablevision for internet, but after the promo price, we're at $55 a month which is steep.

We pay $50 for TWC Turbo. I think it's less than it usually costs because we complain a lot.

Brand? I think that's about it. I don't know much about Apple TV, but Roku has different models of their boxes- the cheapest is like $60. I think Apple was a little bit more.

Apple tv and roku are pretty much the same thing. The idea is that they are like internet routers. They deliver internet channels to your tv. Our main ones are netflix (which we can also get on our tablets and phones), amazon (if you have prime...some stuff is free, some stuff you have to pay for) and hulu.

The downside for many people is that lack of sports channels. But where there's a will, there's a way.

I DO miss HGTV, DIY, NatGeo and Discovery. But many of the shows are available on the websites, too, so if I REALLY want to watch them, I can.

The biggest plus? We save $100 a month. We started saving that money into our DS's bank account and our Christmas/Hanukkah gift fund.

I don't know if I could live without HGTV! Eeeks. Does Roku have Bravo? Food Network?
