Alterations costs
What do you think would be a reasonable cost to have a wedding dress taken in 3" on both sides and hemmed up a couple inches?
I'm asking for my friend. She didn't think she'd lose weight before her wedding and ordered one size up because her old size was just a little tight. Now she's freaking about the cost and wants to know what I would think is reasonable.

BM dress would be different from a wedding dress....I know bridal places will jack up the prices for a wedding dress

Re: Alterations costs
that's a tough one to estimate. I lost weight before my wedding and the dress needed to be taken in A LOT!! it also needed a bustle and some other stuff done and I paid $250. but I went to the seamstresses house - she has a biz out of her home. if i had gone to a store, it would have been a LOT more!

Re: Alterations costs
my dress was huge in the bust when I got it and had to be shortened a bit, and I got a bustle with 6 or 7 points. I went to a private seamstress. I think it was $125.

Re: Alterations costs
i think it really depends on the material, if there is beading and what kind of place she is bringing it to. a dress shop will charge more but it may be worth the $$ knowing they are doing it right. and some places have a cap on the cost of alterations. she may be looking at almost $200. anything over that would be too much IMO.
