almost 5 year old acting out
My DS is almost 5 and is really pushing the limits with me and my DH. I have a LO who is almost 11 months old and in the last few months, my oldest has beenr early acting out.
I feel like I've tried everything. We've sat down and had talks about how it's ok to be angry, got books on how to deal with the anger etc. Try to label his feelings and ask him to try and talk about it when he's angry. He talks back, tells us no all the time, tells me to "shoo" when he's in time out. I just feel like I am doing a horrible job managing this. I don't know where he heard "shoo" from.
I've walked away and ignored most of this as much as I can. Offered hugs when I feel like he's needed it. I am just at my wits end.
Has anyone dealt with this and if so, can you offer any tips/advice? Maybe some parenting books?
He's expressed he's jealous of his little brother and we've both made separate time with him a lot. It doesn't seem to be helping.
Thanks for reading.

Re: almost 5 year old acting out
I think its the age DS is 4 (turned 4 in May) and does many of the same things. He will SCREAM "no" or "never" when he is upset and we direct him to do things.
I have found that being firm with punishments and following through helps and ignoring certain behaviors works as well.
We have started a reward "jar" for good behavior and that is helping tremendously.

Sometimes kids just act out. Just do the best you can to manage it and they will grow out of it.
