Alcohol during Pregnancy

Does anyone drink in moderation (one to two glasses of wine a week) while pregnant?

I don't plan on it as I'm WAY too nervous but reading a lot of stuff out there that says it's totally fine....but then again, who knows.

Anyway I know this is a taboo topic but just curious to see some thoughts

No. I am sure a glass of wine here and there will not harm the baby (seeing as it hasn't always been known that alcohol was dangerous) but for me if I can cut the risk down to 0, I feel like it's worth it.

Re: Alcohol during Pregnancy

After my CVS and Amnio my doctor actually told me to have a glass of red wine because it would relax my uterus and prevent contractions... I didn't bc I was too nervous but I don't think a glass of wine here and there is going to hurt anything.

I've heard in the latter part of pregnancy a glass of wine is OK. I had a friend drink wine steadily throughout and her baby was fine. I don't plan to drink at all even if I get the OK, just not worth the worry to me.

I didn't with my first but did with my second (who is just fine!) and currently with my third. In moderation of course - a glass of wine with dinner once a week if that or a half glass in the evening after the kids are in bed. I actually craved it this pregnancy and found that it helps calm my irritable uterus so I get why they would recommend it after an amnio.

Re: Alcohol during Pregnancy

With both DS and now with this pregnancy the smell of beer or wine is a real turnoff so even if I chose to have a glass sparingly I don't think my nose would allow me to.

However, I do know a few people who did have a glass here or there and their children are just fine. I also know two people who drank daily and again their children, one of who is a very sucessful financial consultant, are fine.

They say Europeans don't shy away from wine or beer when pregnant and it's more of an American thing.

With all of my pregnancies, I have had one to two small glasses, in the ENTIRE 9 months, not every week. Always after like 8 mos.

Alcohol during Pregnancy

Some ppl have said it's ok in moderation. I usually take a sip of DH's wine or beer when he has it, but I think I would feel weird drinking a whole glass.

I attempted 3 half glasses when I was preggo with DS. Each one gave me horrendous heartburn. I had a few sips of wine a few weeks ago and again horrible heartburn. Not worth it for me. Wish it had been a more pleasant experience lol

Re: Alcohol during Pregnancy

My doctor told me it was ok to have 2-3 glasses a week after the 1st trimester. I have not drank that often but I have ha a glass here and there on occasion. Nothing wrong with it.

My MIL actually tells us all the time that she smoked and drank throughout her entire pregnancy with DH and look how big he is! lol

Alcohol during Pregnancy

My sister's an OB and she told me that back in the day hospitals used to give the mother a glass of red wine to stop contractions. I had one glass of wine when we were in Costa Rica and I had one at a party on Sunday but I can't imagine I'm going to have another one before DS is born, but in moderation and a small glass I'm totally ok with it. Plus, it def took the edge off any anxiety that I was feeling.

During the Fall I would have like 1 sip of Hard Cider probably once a week. It's mine and my husband's fav drink and so once a week when he cracked one open, it became tradition I had the first sip lol My old midwife used to tell me dark beers were allowed ( never did it tho) but this pregnancy I was a bit braver and figured hard cider had a weaker content anyway.

Re: Alcohol during Pregnancy

I think drinking red wine is fine. I chose not to drink with DS#1 or DS#2 but with this pregnancy I have had a couple of glasses of red wine (total).

There is also a wine out 'Fre' which contains no alcohol so I'll take a bottle of that with me when I'm out with the girls or over the holidays at family events. There is less than 1% alcohol is it and it tastes very good. I've consumed a couple of bottle of these over the course of my pregnancy Chat Icon

I always hav 1/2 -1 glass of wine at holidays or big family events, which in total is onl about 5-8 times during myentire pregnancy. I'm a red wine drinker and crave it so much during pregnancy bu I don feel comfy having it for no good reason!

Alcohol during Pregnancy

My dr said the amount of alcohol in a small glass of wine is negliable and would never reach the baby anyway, he said I could safetly drink one or two glasses a week.

I had a small glass of wine filled with lots of ice a few times throughout my pregnancy but the more preggo I got the less I wanted it.

I see nothing wrong with a small glass of wine or beer here or there while preganant. But to each their own, if someone is uncomfortable then don't do it.
