DS will be 15 months when we travel...if you have travelled on a plane with a baby do you bring a carseat? we did book a separate seat for him.
Thanks!

Airplane and carseat
You can bring a car seat on the plane or have them sit in the plane in the seat without one. There is also a special FAA approved harness (CARES) you can get if you do not want to bring the car seat.

Re: Airplane and carseat
We always brought the carseat onto the plane. They are too little to sit comfortably and most importantly safely in the seat. I found that my DS was really comfortable in his car seat on the plane, he even napped all 4 flights. Flew at 17 months and 23 months, always bought him a seat also. Will fly again at about 3yr 5 mos and will also take the car seat. DH doesn't want to carry that big heavy seat but I reminded him that we put him in a car seat in the car, why not a plane where we are travelling way faster and where an accident can be catatrophic. Don't think his small body can be safely protected by just the seatbelt. They have a CARES system or something but I haven't looked into it.

Re: Airplane and carseat
I was just going to post the same question! DS will be 18 months when we fly to FL. I was looking into the CARES Kids Fly Safe Child Aviation Restraint System vs. a carseat. The prices for CARES is like $60 but it just seems so much easier then lugging a carseat through the airport. I will be traveling with my sister, DS and my 3 neices. I am probably going to try to find the CARES for cheaper somewhere and go with that. I just don't see how we will be able to manage all the kids, carry-ons, strolllers and a car seat. Don't mean to hijack your post but thought you might find this helpful. Would love to hear feedback on the CARES system is anyone has used it!

Airplane and carseat
We have the CARES system and are happy with it - it's easier than taking the carseat and it keeps DS in the seat. He doesn't seem to mind it either since he's used to sitting with a harness on in his carseat.

Re: Airplane and carseat
Why use carseat on airplane? Tons of info in there.
Also, if you don't bring a seat, what will you use when you arrive at your destination?

This. We always need a carseat when we travel, so it just makes sense to put her in it on the plane.

We usually have one waiting for us at our destination (usually visiting friends or DH drives while we fly) or we check it with our luggage.

Airplane and carseat
Last time I flew with DS we did not buy him a seat and we rented a car so we got a seat from the rental company

Airplane and carseat
We are flying to PR in a couple weeks and I told DH we shoul dbring the carseat. He was saying how much of a hassle it's going to be to lug it around the airport, so I was going to ask the same. I will check out this Cares thing... We are not renting a car, so we wouldn't need it when we get there.

Re: Airplane and carseat
We took DD on a plane when she was 11 months old and chose to put her in a car seat mainly for safety and her comfort. I was so happy with my decision because she ended up sleeping most of the flight in both directions.
We bought a second carseat specifically for travel, a Cosco Scenera. It comes very highly rated plus it's fairly narrow so it didn't spill over much into my seat. I think we paid $50 for it on Amazon. We now use it as a second seat in my husband's car.
We also purchased this:
GoGo Kidz Travelmate
It was great for the airport. We didn't need our regular stroller because we were renting one at our destination.

we will have one available when we arrive...so the seat would be just for the plane ride

Re: Airplane and carseat
We bring DDs seat on. For walking through the airport, we have a "back pack" holder for it.

Re: Airplane and carseat
Just make sure your carseat fits. We have an Evenflo Symphony 65 and it did not and it was a royal pain. We had to drag it all over (luckily we used it in the car we had) and didn't even use it on the plane.
Good luck!
