Air conditioner purchase Vent-
arghhh...
I just got an AC from Jays Appliances in levittown-
$550 for the Ac and 300 for install(because it was filling a large gap from the previous ac)= 850 + tax
Well---
my inlaws ac broke- and they just got theirs replaced 2 days after ours..
SAME AC brand/model/btu- same large gap- $170 less for the ac, $120 less for the install
= $290 LESS at Pc Richards......
and they signed up for a warranty, Jays didnt even mention a warranty that i could purchase....

Re: Air conditioner purchase Vent-
probably because you bought it from a private store I'm guessing (I've never heard of Jay's) their markup is bigger. That's the case with everything. If you go to a private owned record store your going to pay more than you would if you went to best buy.

Re: Air conditioner purchase Vent-
$300 for the install was ridiculous. I would have never paid that.
I think the most I paid for an AC through the wall install was $120-150. Tops.
I always prefer PC Richards because they always have the lowest prices, especially if you haggle.

Re: Air conditioner purchase Vent-
Jays puts out an ad every weekend- $20 for install- but if the new ac is alot smaller then its considered a large fill job-
- the ac was already installed- as of wednesday so its not like i can cancel the order or get a refund of the difference
i normally research these things..

wow! that's why i always go with PC--i'm sorry this happened to you.
and you can negotiate price at pc richards! i never pay the sticker price--i got our A/C for $60 cheaper this year--if it was off season i could have done better. they also had the no payments until march 2009 which was nice.

Re: Air conditioner purchase Vent-
Sorry this happened to you. I would go there and demand a credit. DH and I were just there at Jays today and purchased am AC for our bedroom - it's a wall unit. 6000 BTU's - they were going to charge us $20 for installation, but waived it. It's a small AC for our bedroom and it will go in the wall, perhaps that's why ours was less expensive.. in any event, I would go back if I were you and get that credit. Good luck.

WHAT? Thats outrageous! We got a HUGE A/C for Our great room..At home depot...Works great, 1/2 that price.
Can you take it back? Or lose your install money?

Re: Air conditioner purchase Vent-
I bought a GE 10000 BTU AC from Jays last summer and paid $20 for install. There was no hole in the wall, they had to cut it out.
Also had them install my other AC that I had in the other rooms wall where there was no hole for $100.
I would go to Jays with your parents receipt and see if they will match the price

Re: Air conditioner purchase Vent-
I went to Jay's two weeks ago with my DH and my mom. DH and I were looking to replace a huge ac in our living room wall. My mother was buying one as well. I also needed a dehumidifier and a microwave.
You would think, based on that amount of merchandise, someone would have wanted to help us. No one got out of their chairs. They yelled prices at us as we walked around. The prices seemed high to me and I left. Went to PC Richards on Sunrise Highway and saved over $600.
I know some people swear by Jay's, but I will never set foot in there again.

Re: Air conditioner purchase Vent-
ok, well the manager wont be in til tomorrow-
The guy became very irate on the phone raising his voice saying 1" fill on each side is a big fill....and wouldnt believe pc richards is $100 less to install..and cheaper in price
PS> this Ac which they charged 550 after the 10% sale... 1.. is listed for $500 msrp on the manufacturer website... 2. listed for $380 at pc richards. 3. listed for $430 at Best Buy
Im sending DH in there... they also never offered a wty that could be purchased...and left a large amount of debris in the driveway
ETA:- Well sent DH in, they deal alot better with men. They gave him a 5 year wty which is $100 value, so at least it part corrects $300 difference.
