Re: age for iPod?
Posted by NervousNell
DD is 8 and nope. I can't imagine what the heck she would text her friends about? "Which LOL doll did you get?" "I'm wearing my unicorn shirt today, what about you?"
Come on now. No need for that shit.
OMG I agree!!! All the kids were texting in like 2nd and 3rd grade, insane to me.
My DD is going into 6th and is one of the last kids without a "device" to text on. She has a landline in her room (google voice), so her friends can email her or call her. I'm so anti social media and texting for kids though. Especially group texts. I'm definitely not the norm!

I was in friendlys one day recently with my twins and every kid had a table, I mean EVERY kid from like age 2 onwards... what happened to conversations and coloring and books? Anyway, I hate technology so that’s my rant but in general I feel 8 is overall too young
Right!!!
We were just on the Disney cruise, and they have this really cute thing called the "diaper dash". Kids that are crawling age have to race to the finish line on a mat, right. So 90% of the parents had their phones to lure them to the end of the mat! Crazy! Under a year old and already hooked to the device!

Re: age for iPod?
My DD got her iPod for Christmas when she was 8. We moved to a new town that year and she does text her old friends to keep in touch. It isn't every day or even every week but I'm happy she gets to speak to them since we only see them a couple of times a year now. She also uses it to text her dad during the day when he is at work, her grandma, etc.

The sad part is the 1 year old wants the phone not bc they are using it or playing with it. They want it bc they always see the adult with it and that makes it special. They want what we want. :(
