age a factor?
"Technically" yes as you age your fertility decreases. However every one is different. DH & I had to do IVF in our 20s to conceive DD while my friend got pregnant on her first try at 37.
I've also had friends who have tried 6+ months TTC in their mid 20s and cousins that have gotten pregnant in less time in their mid 30s so who knows.

Re: age a factor?
yes, I'm in my late, I mean late 30's (um hum almost 40) I do feel there are contributing factors to age and ttc. That being said it is still possible.

Re: age a factor?
I've been trying since I'm 31. I'm 32 now. Its possible that age played a factor but honestly I'm still glad we waited because we were NOT ready to have a child when we were younger.

age a factor?
I conceived my first when I was 38. Now at 40 trying for #2. I used OPK's and conceived the 2nd month we were using them. So it can happen. Personally, I think age factors into it a little, but I know plenty of moms 35+ who had no problems.

Re: age a factor?
I just turned 35 and have been trying for a year in a half. I've read alot of stuff that says fertility decreases in thirtys. But I also know each person is different

Re: age a factor?
Without a doubt, it's a big factor.
I read that by age 30 women will lose about 90% of her ovarian eggs and the quality of those remaining eggs also deteriorate... things go downhill fast from age 35.
I'm experiencing the difficulty now and have friends and relatives going through the same. I got pregnant at 34 with no issues but after waiting another 3 yrs to try, 'cus the hubby wasn't ready, I am struggling to get pregnant again and had 2 miscarriages in the past year.... :(

I completely agree. I'm only 26 and I've been TTC for 2 years and have yet to have a successful pregnancy. Yet a friend of mine is 36, and got pregnant the first month she began trying.

age a factor?
It really depends. MY RE showed like a chart of when Fertility decreases. From upper 20s to early 30s it was pretty much the same. There was a bigger dip in fertility after 35 and around 40 a bigger dip. That said you never know. I started trying at 30 and now am 31 and everything is fine with us we are diagnosed Unexplained. So really you never know. I guess it will happen when it happens...the process is torture. I know plenty of friends my age 30-33 that got pregnant their first month trying...we aren't that lucky. Hang in there. I tell myself somethings gotta work eventually.

Re: age a factor?
There is definitely science to back up the fact that fertility for women drops off at different ages and so does egg quality, etc. but one thing to keep in mind (so you don't beat yourself up too much if you have waited until 30s and have trouble ttc) is that you may have had the same difficulties 10 years earlier. Most people will never know because they weren't trying to get pregnant at 21 so they have no earlier experiences to compare to. KWIM? You and DH could have faced the same challenges ttc no matter what your age.

Re: age a factor?
I have 3 family members that got pregnant at age 38. They all agree that fertility may decline but not disappear. You are never out of the game just because you are in your mid-late 30's.

Just wanted to add if FSH has anything to do with it my FSH at age 28 was 3.5...at age 34 it's 3.8. Went up very minimally. We are doing IF treatments but strictly for male factor.

ITA.
I had my beautiful, healthy DD at age 33 and my DS is actually due today and I will be 38 in two weeks. Ironically, I needed IF treatments to conceive my DD and after many failed IF treatments to conceive baby #2 we ended up getting pregnant with our DS all naturally with no help, treatments, or drugs. So being in your 30's is not a fertility death sentence.

Re: age a factor?
It can be. Fertility definitely overall decreases as we age...it doesn't mean that it affects everyone the same though...but if you look at average rates of fertility, you will notice a definite decline the older you get.
With that being said....It took us 4 cycles to conceive our second son (I was 30) but at 34 I have gotten pg first try both times (one that ended in ectopic, and with my current pregnancy).
So you just never know.
