Again, I need some help....Long
I got this e-mail from my friend who runs the Weimeraner rescue on Long Island. She is looking for a home for a 7 year old female Weimie....
We have had Nuala for 7 years( yesterday was actually her bday!) We got her when we were very young, and we did not do the proper research on the breed, and just thought she was a beautiful puppy. My husband purchased her fro ma pet store I believe in Manhasset, NY. We lived at the time in a very small apt. and right from the get go, but not having kids at the time, Chris my husband was able to take her run her everyday. We also lived near a dog park so we went there often and she had socialization opportunity. Foolishly, we never properly trained her, she was allowed to sleep with us, be on the furniture, eat table food etc...
Since then we have moved into a house in Sayville, NY, have 2 children now (ages 5 & 3) and both work full time. Nuala is alone all day( 9hrs), and I feel terrible. As a working mom with 2 kids I need my life to be as simple as possible, and having Nuala is a huge stress point for me. She has typical weimananer behaviors,,,wants to be with me or my husband all the time, is very hyper, jumps, escapes from the fenced in backyard( although she never runs away....she just escapes and then jumps on the front door!) Mischievous, steals food from the kids ...
She is very good with kids---I have 2 boys and are very rough and tumble with her---she is not the least bit aggressive. Because she is so big and hyper though, she has knocked them( and me!) over on many occasions. We live in a small home that she is definitely too big for. Another behavior she has is whenever we have a babysitter she barks....all night. I believe it is called recreational barking. I have come to the realization that the dog is putting a huge strain on my marriage and and my emotional well being. it is hard for us to have company over, my husband works late most evenings, so I am solo with the kids and the dog, and she is just not getting the exercise, attention and affection she deserves. Nuala did have a cancerous tumor removed Dec 06, but now has a clean bill of health and is fine.
She does sleep on a dog bed at night, but she does sleep on the couch when we are work( no matter how many booby traps we set up!) She eats anything, including full boxes of tissues, socks---etc....basically I think she is starving for attention and companionship that we cannot provide. I have dealt with this for 7 years, and I am at my breaking point. It is very hard for me to admit I just cannot handle it anymore, but I know in my heart I have reached my limit.
She loves the water, going on the boat, riding in the car and playing catch. She loves to eat ice cubes! She will make the right person a lovely pet and friend, and loves other dogs. I would absolutely love to see her in a home with another weimaraner.
Anything you can do to help me find her a loving home with someone that knows and understands the breed would be wonderful. I have attached a few pics...I have a ton more if you need.
Now, just to clarify - I don't know this woman or the dog. I was contacted by a friend of mine who runs the Weimeraner Rescue to see if I can help. We thought about taking her ourselves, but we are having a baby and it would just be too much.
If you or anyone you know is interested in a wonderful, loving dog - trust me Weimies are the best. Any of the negative she is describing sounds to me like the dog is acting out because she doesn't get enough attention.
Please help if you can.

So sad, I have always LOVED this breed, and would take the dog in a heartbeat of I didnt have Tiger, and I know Tiger is itching for a playmate, but it would be too much with the boys......I hope she finds a good home

This sounds exactly right. Poor baby
I hope she gets adopted into a home that just showers her with attention

Before giving her up have you thought about hiring a dog walker for her in the middle of the day? Maybe she needs to release some of her energy and you just don't have the time to do that. It's worth a shot before finding her a new home maybe? Good luck with whatever you decide.

Gerty is not the owner of this dog, she is just forwarding the info.
But to this radiolau's point maybe in the meantime while this woman is waiting to find a new home for her dog she could hire a dog walker or put her in doggy day care.

I love this breed... Unfortunately, we don't have the time and attention to dedicate to one now. I hope she finds a great home!

I apologize. I missed that point of who the owner is. I really hope whoever the owner is might try some other options though before giving up. If it doesn't work out in the end at least they tried every other option first.

Pretty dog! We aren't home enough to take her, but I find it lousy that animals are considered disposable when their owners don't have the time any more.
Good luck finding a home for the dog Gearty.

Let me talk to my MIL. She is a SAHW and wants another dog, since they are going to have to put her oldest down soon. She already has a husky, but has a huge yard that the dogs are secure in & can play all day. I am not sure if she is ready for another dog just yet, but maybe I can speed it up for her.
Thanks Gerty for trying to find this beautiful dog a home
