Actually the suburb is Livinston, NJ - the city is Newark.

Looking at median home prices, cost of living, crime, and local schools, here are the 25 best and most affordable suburbs of the largest cities in the U.S.
ETA: And the violent crime index in Newark (Livingston) is lower than a lot of other places...even West Nyack, NY.

that REALLY amazed me...All you every hear about Newark (or the surrounding area) is how bad the crime is....Guess there are other places where its worse.

Me too.
Where I live, in a tiny town in suburban Atlanta, the crime rate is MUCH, MUCH higher. And it's super safe. Go figure.

I can't comment on any of the places cause I have never heard of any of them... WELL with the exception of Livingston and W. Nyak and I have only heard of them....

Not really.
well for ME - there are only TWO suburbs on that list that i would have any desire to live in - so imo it IS exactly

Regarding Newark - yah they are talking about Livingston, NJ which is a very upscale suburban town near Newark.....I know a couple of coworkers live there and they paid alot for their houses so I'm not sure how affordable it is....
ETA: Newark is still bad but getting better so I hear....but it's weird but kinda like LI how there are good towns right next to bad towns.
Livingston, NJ is one town near Newark that is really nice, another one is Maplewood, NJ.

I didn't see that I quoted you Kerry.
I was just trying to state the obvious, because like you said, not all are looking on LI.
Just like it's upsetting when LI is put down, it's annoying when anywhere other than LI is seen as undesirable.

Its just funny cause you called me "the nastiest person on LIF" on that thread when I was defending Levittown... BUT when someone is putting down other parts of the country you kinda get defensive too
