Advice to help Relax-Any tips?

I know I need to start relaxing if I ever want that BFP. And I am sure we can all use some help. So if anyone has tips/advice, it would be much appreciated! TIA Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Ehh, I'm not a big proponent of "relaxation" as a way to a BFP.

I've been super duper relaxed and never got PG.

I'm not really a high-stress person in general though.

-I try to keep work at work (even if it means staying an hour later - I'd rather not bring it home).
-Eat dinner every night with DH (good bonding/catching up time).
-Unwind before bed (watch tv, read a magazine)
-Get lots of sleep (I try to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night!)

Re: Advice to help Relax-Any tips?

I found that I was stressing myself out way to much so for the past month or so I have been trying to relax.

1. started acupuncture
2. started doing some stretches
3. pray a lot

I think i just started to take care of me and made myself a priority. This whole TTC thing is so overwhelming and it so easy to make it your whole life, . I think what makes it so hard (besides the obvious) is that you put your life on hold every month. I think just refocusing your attention to yourself and your life really puts things in prospective. dont get me wrong I still cry after I get AF every month and still obsess about my symptoms, but this kind of helps me not stress out as much.

Re: Advice to help Relax-Any tips?

I find that a book distracts me very well....

I'm reading the Twilight Series now and it's a serious addiction. So I grab a glass of wine, cozy up and get lost in the book. I think that has really helped me a lot this month.

Re: Advice to help Relax-Any tips?

Give yourself 5 minutes...find a quiet place...close your eyes and just sit and breathe. It's amazing what it feels like to breathe deep...i mean into the belly deep.

I have a small bracelet that says "breathe" on it to remind me to do that.

People may laugh, but it's amazing how much you really forget to "breathe"and how much better you feel once you do Chat Icon

Re: Advice to help Relax-Any tips?

I've been reading every night before bed and I find that is really my down-time.

When I get really stressed I put myself in a "time-out" - make myself a cup of coffee and just relax for a few minutes. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I drink a cup of chamomile tea before I go to bed.
Massage, listen to music that puts you in a happy mood. Read books about other things (not anything related to TTC), chill out to a movie, yoga....Chat Icon

Re: Advice to help Relax-Any tips?

Would you consider taking an adult ed class or something like that where you can totally zone out and put your concentration into something? I've taken pastels at Cooper Union Adult Ed, it was the most relaxing experience!

Reading, learn a new hobby like knitting, try a little pampering like a massage, facial, or mani/pedi, crossword puzzles...

Re: Advice to help Relax-Any tips?

Not sure if this'll help with a BFP, but exercise helps me. If I need to burn off some steam, I run. If I need to just chill, I'll take a yoga class. It's better for you than my other favorite alternative - a glass (or two!) of wine!

HTH!!

I actually started an exercise class recently, It helps a lot.

I never really obsessed over the BFP (dont know how!), but now I dont really notice what CD Im on.
I actually had to run out and buy a OPK cause I realized it was already CD12.

now if I could stop blowing thru $30 worth of tests a month Chat Icon

I agree with the Divinemrs, a couple glasses of wine always help too

ITA with this, and often just practice deep breathing through my nose

I also knit and that is very relaxing, tea, a great book a massage doesn't hurt either .

Re: Advice to help Relax-Any tips?

I DEFINITELY think stress affects your cycle and in turn, CAN affect your fertility

sorry I have no tips on HOW to relax though

maybe reading a book, taking a nice hot bath, enjoying a glass of wine Chat Icon

Re: Advice to help Relax-Any tips?

i think stress was the largest factor in keeping us from our BFP....i truly do.

Looking back - when did we get our BFP? When i had FINALLY given up control to the RE. I gave myself over to him completely, like, my fertility was in HIS hands, no longer my own...and blammo - BFP. The month we got it - no temping, no opk's - nothing...because i knew, we're seeing the doc - no worries.

I cannot tell you the way i felt after leaving the RE for the first time....the sense of relief, the sense of - not my 'problem' anymore, the sense of, we have a firm plan and we're done...and what happened? CD1 never came...the plan never went into place. I truly, 100% believe now that the appointment was the reason for the BFP...and Dave has mentioned it as well....

I would think the best way to get relief from it - sans RE or something else would be find a way to channel that 'stress' into something. Maybe an exercise class like kickboxing (a friend of mine swears by that one), or something like that - where you can get it all out!!!!!

Good luck sweety!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Advice to help Relax-Any tips?

It's so hard to relax when u have a high stress job. I also commute everyday and the train only makes me more stressed. I get home at 7pm, eat and go to bed. I am expected to check email at night and on weekends. Most of the time, the emails only annoy me and make me more stressed. My schedule really isn't going to change. I will admit that I drink a few glasses of wine with dinner, but aside from that, there's not much else I do. Chat Icon
