advice/tips to make life easier once baby comes...

Just wanted to start a thread on some ways to make life easier once your little bundle of joy comes along.

This is my second child, and they will be 20 months apart so I can use any tips/advice.

I will start by saying that I think I am going to get a slow cooker. I was talking to a relative and she said it was the best thing. She prepped everything when baby was napping. She set it and forget it. By the time, DH got home dinner was made.

I am def. going to invest in one of those.

Any others that you can think of?

Re: advice/tips to make life easier..

-If both children are crying, take care of the needs of the older child first-(unless they are physically hurt).

-Have the older child help you get the diapers, wipes, throw out the bad diaper, get the baby's blanket, help you burp him/her etc. It will get the child involved and feel like they are super special for being mommy's helper.

-When bringing kids out to car, leave the baby in the infant seat inside the house while you put older DC in the car. Baby is contained and cannot go anywhere. Do the opposite for coming in the house, baby comes in first, then go get toddler.

Visit close relatives on the weekends so they can help out while you catch up on your sleep! Or better yet, invite them over for a day. :)

My sister did this for a few years until her kids are school age. It definitely helped and she gets a free meal and leftovers out of it.

For all of you looking to get use of a slow cooker, check out this blog post. I found it on pinterest and she shows you how to freeze all the ingredients in a ziplock bag that way it's ready to go and you can do a bunch of bags at once... link

I also have to say that the food saver we got for Christmas is the best thing ever! I plan on making large batches of spaghetti sauce, marinated chicken, etc that I can freeze in individual bags good for one meal.

Pinterest has a whole bunch of freezer and crockpot meal ideas and other dinner ideas. They also have a whole bunch of organization ideas which may make life easier once the 2nd comes along. I'm in the same boat as you, mine will be 19 months apart and I am freaking out big time!
