Advice on being a chaperone for class trip....
So my daughter just started kindergarten and we got a notice for their first class trip (White Post Farms). At the bottom of the permission slip it asked to check the box if we would be available to chaperone. I was very excited to see on the calendar that my husband is off that day and will be able to stay with DD2 so I can chaperone. I was even more excited to find out today that I got picked to be a chaperone. But now I AM FREAKING OUT!!
What am I supposed to do? What are the responsibilities of a chaperone? I dont want to show favoritism towards my daughter, but I also dont want her to think I am ignoring her. Any advice from moms who have done this before would be MUCH appreciated!!

Re: Advice on being a chaperone for class trip....
When I have chaperones for my class (kindergarten) the parents help with making sure the kids get on and off the bus safely, bathrooms (example....might take two or three kids into the bathroom at a time while I wait outside with the rest or vice versa), help with lunch if we eat at the site (maybe open a container or two). Mainly we stay together as a group and the parents are there for support / help. Have fun!

Re: Advice on being a chaperone for class trip....
At WPF, we were assigned another kid if there was one who's mom didn't come. We were supposed to bring them around & keep an eye on them. That's about it.
Some moms teamed up together & went around as a group. Others took their kids around to feed the goats, etc.
One thing I'd suggest is bring your camera & get photos of them together for end of the year gifts, calendars they put together.

Re: Advice on being a chaperone for class trip....
I fully agree w/ the above posters. I'm a teacher too & we have a trip here in a couple of weeks & I usually pair up my chaperones with 1-2 other children to keep watch of. We generally have a set itinerary....ie., feed animals, then pumpkin hay ride then lunch, then play. We hope the moms help w/ bathroom trips for their assigned children; help w/ lunches; wash hands, etc.
I'm sure the teacher will tell you what she expects too. You'll be fine.
