Advent calendar

Anyone have a favorite? This is the first year my kids really "get" the holidays and I want to savor every minute. Looking for something big that will grab their attention.

I've been getting the Lego advent calendars the past few years. I can't do the chocolate ones b/c DS has a nut allergy. I used to stuff my own calendar (it's a wooden tree with doors) b/c DS nibbled on all the candy once when I wasn't looking and I never used it again!

I made my own. I bought a cork board from Michaels with a nice frame around it. Covered it in Christmas fabric, then made a tree out of ribbon. I used paintable thumbtacks from target that look like Christmas bulbs and DD painted them all different colors. We hang mini ornaments every day on it. I like it because if we go away somewhere we look for mini ornaments to add to it. DD picks which one she wants to hang that day.

My fil made us a beautiful wooden one with doors (sort of like the one on national lampoons Christmas vacation)! But when we were kids, we used to use double sided tape to tape 25 Hershey's kisses and Reese's into a plate in a Christmas tree shape, and unwrap one a day. We'd leave the wrapping on there and squish it into a ball so the tree shape was still there. I loved making the calendar!
