Re: Above-ground pool

We bought one 2 years ago and it was $4000. That included the installation.

Re: Above-ground pool

The one we have was $1300 for the pool, liner and filter. It is 21' round. Installation was another 500. We got it from Island Rec and that was a total mistake. I will never use them for anything ever again. Even though the prices were better than I saw anywhere else.. the aggravation just isn't worth it to me.

Brothers 3 quoted my IL's $2800 for a 15 foot round with installation, filter and liner.

Yes, please share if you don't mind? That's a big price difference & it almost seems worth a little aggravation? Chat Icon Convince me it's not, please!!!

Re: Above-ground pool

I've actually had - no exaggeration - about 5 different problems with them in the last week and a half. I'm not going to go into all of them because it's just too much - but really it Is NOT worth the aggravation. I'll tell you 2 of the issues and leave off the rest.

We went to put together the filter on Thursday night. Opened the box and discovered there were no connection hoses. I called Island Rec and the rep told me that I bought a final sale 'as is' filter. I told him that wasn't true and as proof it wasn't on the receipt that I was holding. He said it didn't matter what the receipt said and that if I needed hoses I would have to buy them. I told him that was unacceptable. He said I should go to the store and discuss it with them. I asked if he could connect me with them since they are a bit of a drive. He said he could not but he'd have them call me back. I asked how long and he said he didn't know. I told him he should consider it urgent and that I would call back in 15 minutes if I hadn't heard anything.

Forty minutes later I called back. He put me through to his manager who started YELLING at me. I mean LAYING INTO ME on the phone before I could get a word out. He told me that I should have checked all the boxes at purchase and that it was an as is unit and that if I had a problem it was my fault! I kept telling him to simmer down so I could talk but he kept YELLING at me. Finally I yelled "LET ME TALK NOW!" and he did. I told him I have a receipt and nowhere does it say final sale or anything like that.. immediately he starts yelling again. I tell him that he's got nerve acting as though I don't have a right to be upset.. he HANGS UP ON ME. I call back and ask for his name. They connect me to him again. He gives me his name and tells me the store will give me the hoses for free.. but in a way that indicated that I was 'scamming' them or something. It was really disconcerting.

On Saturday we discovered FOUR leaks in the pool before ANYONE even went in! My sister has a dinky little quick set that has been used and abused by my nephew and his posse all summer without a single tear. but his BRAND NEW pool has four leaks in the liner before anyone has set foot in it?? I don't have time to deal with these people on Saturday so I call on Sunday as soon as they open. Call center - as usual - is useless. They tell me to go to any store. I tell them I'd like to talk to the store first since the call center has (by that point) given me bad information more than once. He says he'll have them call back.

I get a call 20 minutes before closing. I explain to the manager the issue. He says to come in and he will give us a patch kit. I tell him that isn't sufficient. A new pool should not have 4 tears before being used. I tell him I think I deserve a new liner and install of that liner. He tells me that will 'never happen'. He says I can go to the store but the most they will give me is a percent off a new liner with no installation.

I've complained to the BBB and have noticed that Island Rec has D rating with 96 complaints in the last 36 months - the majority due to poor product. Almost all of them between May and July. They have misleading ads, awful customer service and terribly unprofessional staff. They do not stand behind their products or services. Be aware that a good portion of the people there really don't know anything about pools - so asking advice is a nightmare. They wanted me to buy "Chlor No More" to reduce the chlorine usage in my pool and they'd give me a season's worth of chlorine with it. I asked what was in it. She didn't know. I looked.. it's COPPER. If you want to know what gives clothes and hair a green tint when you swim - it is not chlorine.. it's COPPER. God.. there are so many other things that went wrong but I just don't want to rehash because it will really make me mad. Suffice it to say that I had heard bad things but figured "It won't happen to me." It did. They stink. I will never recommend them and I will tell anyone who listens just how terrible they are. I've got a complaint with teh BBB, Consumer Affairs and the Attorney General.

Island Rec has the WORST!!! Customer service!!!!! It is horrible!!! My DH on more than one occasion has lost his shyte with them. We use Leslie's for all our supplies. They are much more knowledgeable.

Re: Above-ground pool

The previous owners of our house bought the pool from island rec. It is terribly made! It is only 5 years old and it had a hole in the liner that ate through the actual pool wall. Also when you feel the inside of the walls of the pool there is jagged bumps all over. Not sure what it is from but it is definitely another hole waiting to happen.

We just moved in but are considering taking it down and getting a new one. Spend more money somewhere else the quality has to be better!!!!
