? about molar pregnancies
What are the reasons for waiting after having a MP or PMP. I understand that they need to monitor your levels to make sure the mole does not become persistant but does it pose a greater risk for another MP if you concieve sooner and does it pose a higher risk to the health of the mother or baby if you do? I am just curious about this, I still have another 3 months to wait but just wondering if anyone has any info about this.

This is absolutely the case for a m/c but when someone has a molar pregnancy they have a 20% chance of developing a type of pregnancy related cancer due to the molar tissue and this is why they are told to wait longer in case the mole become persistent. If it does the woman gets treated with a mild form of chemo which is usually 99% effective in treating the cancer. I just wanted to know if the longer you wait the less your chances are of having another molar pregnancy or regrowth of cancerous tumors. But thanks for your concern and reply

Re: ? about molar pregnancies
From what I was told with my molar, they recommend that you wait just to be sure cancerous cells do not form within those months. Since they are placental cells they produce HCG (pregnancy hormones). So if they develop, they will then produce HCG and if you get PG they can't monitor the growth b/c you already producing HCG due to the pregnancy. I hope this makes sense. This was how it was explained to me. But to be honest, once I hit below 5 we started not being careful. I just couldn't wait to get PG again and the chances of anything turning bad after you hit such low numbers is so rare. What an emotional rollercoaster. As if the m/c wasnt bad enough then you have all this other BS to worry about!

Right....I KNOW you understand this craziness. Just to clarify, I understand the monitoring of the hcg levels and then they wouldn't know if it was just the pregnancy or GTD BUT I just wondered if there was any OTHER reason like a higher chance of another MP or any other health risks to baby or mother. Like if you get pregnant sooner you have a higher chance of tissue regrowth or something like that. I finally got AF 12/18 and hit 3 last week (within 8 weeks of D&C which I have read is very good) and like you said, I am ready to stop being careful..
I figured I will be sort of careful this month and maybe next but come March I am just going to let natre take it's course even though it won't be 6 months until May. I just wouldn't want to do that if I was running a higher risk of another MP or a higher risk of m/c.

Re: ? about molar pregnancies
Did you get a methotrexate shot? That might help between now and March just to make sure all the cells have been eradicated.

No I didn't need once since I returned to negative within 8 weeks. I believe that once you have that treatment you need to wait longer as well because the remnants from the drugs could harm a fetus which is why the wait time has been reduced to 6 months for people whose levels spontaneously go to negative and remains a full year after last treatment. I think if I got the shot it would prolng my wait time. I don't know, I feel good about the fact that I am back at negative again. My next draw is Monday...

Re: ? about molar pregnancies
Metho leaves your system within a few days...thats what I've been told anyway. From what I read about MP the reason why they ewant you to wait is because the cells could come back. Seems that the metho would help that but hey I'm not a Dr! GL!!

I never heard of it possibly increasing the chances of another molar or tissue regrowth. But its a good question to ask the doctor. Good luck!
