My DD was bit today at nursery school. It's not bad, didn't break skin, but she still has the 2 red teeth marks on her hand. When the teacher told me about it, I asked her who did it and she said she can't tell me. My daughter told me who did it when I asked her. But I'm just curious if it is normal school protocol that the teacher can't release the name of the child who hurts your daughter/son?

It is standard protocol. I believe it has to do with privacy issues. Usually the older children will just tell their parents who it was.

Standard. And biting is a normal kid thing when they are young. I don't get crazy about it unless it is the same kid biting all the time.

Same. DD has been bitten a couple times and has been the biter once. The school won't tell, just writes incident report.

Normal policy. DD has bitten several times and never do they tell me who she bit or tell them who bit their child.

normal - the school never told me who the child was whether DS was bitten or the biter. When it happened multiple times in a short period, I would ask if it was the same child and they would say yes or no, but no name.

My children have never been bitten before but, I know there have been limited other situations (fighting or pushing) and, yes, when I asked in confidence, the teacher has told me. That said, I don't think it is school policy.

I also wanted to say I don't agree with the above posters that this is "normal" behavior in nursery. In nursery schools the kids are at the youngest 3 and some turning 4. I have two kids - one that went through this age group and one that is currently in it and I will say at this age there is never biting. I don't think 3 and 4 yr olds should be biting in school unless there is an underlying behavioral or other issue and honestly, I would monitor the situation.

standard and sucks until your child is old enough to give up the name

you can ask if its been ongoing behavior or the same child. they will tell you that and its IMPORTANT to know that!

Thanks! My daughter is almost 2.5 and it was the first time she was ever bit and i didnt expect that the teacher couldnt tell me. I asked my daughter the same question in a million different ways and she always said the same name so I trust her answer.
