a tree question

We have a dead tree in our backyard. It's at the back of our property, in an area we don't go to. It's surrounded by trees on our property as well as trees from a park behind us.

It doesn't look diseased, just dead. Is there harm leaving it up? DH like the look of it dead Chat Icon Chat Icon He says it looks spooky.

Re: a tree question

I'm no expert but as long as if it fell it could not harm anyone, I might probably leave it.

But maybe there is a valid reason to take it down?

Re: a tree question

There's actually a benefit to leaving it if it's not going to hurt anything if it falls.

Woodpeckers in particular love dead trees because of the insects that live there. I've seen Red-Bellied Woodpeckers make it's home inside of a dead tree.

Just found the pic - take a look:

You could have the branches cut off and just leave the trunk too.

I would just make sure tht if it fell that it wouldnt hit the house or anything else...other wise, I would just leave it up and a shelter for the wildlife! Chat Icon

I never thought about being a home! very cool - we will keep it. It is on the back edge of our property so it's safe and really the thing is so dead, that I don't think it would do anydamage to anything if it fell. Chat Icon

thanks for the feedback
