A question about crying...

I see a lot of moms say that they put their child down and let them cry for a bit and they will get used to it. Okay - how long do you let them cry for? 5 minutes, 10, 20? Do they really cry so hard they choke or just fuss, or a half cry? I would love to do that but DD really cries very hard - where she is crying and choking - and she doesn't seem to stop once she does start. So do your kids do that or how did you get them to let you put them down etc.

Re: A question about crying...

I lay DD to sleep drowsy but awake most of the time. Sometimes she goes right to sleep, sometimes she wimpers a bit and then sleeps. Occasionally she full out crys. Usually she is asleep within 5 minutes. I know by her cry when she's reached the point of no return and then I'll go soothe her. Usually though she's asleep fairly quickly. My rule was going to be no more than 20 minutes but she's never gone that long.

See DD will never stop crying once she starts and doesn't quiet down unless I pick her up - I don't mean when she does her "cry cry quiet" sound that she does when she wakes at night - where she will go back down without me most times. But if I try to put her down for a nap during the day or put her in the pack n play with some toys so I can get something down - she will play for a bit then cry and cry and cry - I have gone in and checked on her every say 5 minutes but she just won't stop - and I don't have the heart to listen to her for 20, 30 minutes or more.

lets just say she is very determined...lol

Re: A question about crying...

I wait about 5 minutes tops....but it usually doesn't get that long. If she's crying hysterically though and making choking and screaming sounds, I'll go and get her sooner than that.
Usually, she cries for about 30 seconds and then realizes there is a toy to play with and she forgets why she was crying. She's pretty good at self-soothing.

See part of the issue is she always wants me - but usually does okay w/ my mom - she knows if she cries we will get her - but there was never a point she would cry for 5 minutes and stop - she prefers to nap in her stroller when out or in mommy's arms at home. See when she plays and falls she cries for a second but doesn't usually need me but naps it is like she must have me - or if I leave her in the pack n play to get stuff done - and she wants out that is it.

Re: A question about crying...

I have the same exact problems with DS Chat Icon If I try to put him in his crib to fall asleep for a nap he will literally cry the entire time until I pick him up! I have tried increasing intervals and doing it for over 30 minutes and he will still cry! Sometimes at night he will go to sleep after crying but, I can usually tell the cry...it is different. Wish I could help...but, i am searching for answers myself Chat Icon
