A growing trend in telemarketers?
ANOTHER telemarketer hung up on me? W T f ?
Since when do they hang up on me? Do you think they do this because they KNOW we are on the do not call list?

If you can't get "Do not call list" out, they can call back.

Re: A growing trend in telemarketers?
I don't know about the hanging up thing. It's probably not a legitimate company calling.
If it's a legitimate company calling you that you don't presently do business with or is a non-profit and they knowingly call you while on the do not call list they can be heavily fined. The company calling (say a bank) and the call center they jobbed it out to will both get fined. When I was managing fundraising telemarketing last year every call center we got a quote from said they would not contact anyone on any of the do not call registries.

It's my job to let them know I am on it? I thought they got lists and it was their job to not violate it??

Couldn't they have old lists? I always get an apology and "we'll take your name off our list" when they call. Do they give the name of their company before they hang up? Try to get that from them and report them. the atty general will follow up.
Someone in my office dialed a wrong number from our fax machine and got a letter once.

Youmean they wait for you to answer and then hang up? That is very odd.
I used to try and be polite. I figured these people are just doing their jobs. Now, I barely let them get out the first sentence and I hang up, if I even answer the phone, thanks to caller ID.

Re: A growing trend in telemarketers?
I think some just bank on getting an answering machine now adays... So many times I get home and there is a pre-recorded message telling me "they're sorry they missed my call, and for me to call 1-800, whateever"... so wehn a person actually picks up, it ruins their "tactic" so they hang up.

Re: A growing trend in telemarketers?
Sometimes it's also automated computers dialing in. You see the number on the ID caller but by the time you pick up the phone, it might seem as they hang up when in reality it's just that the connection did not fall through. Usually after the computer dials up, the call is then transferred to a representative but if the calls is dropped that doesn't happen and you just hear the hangup call. If your name is on the do not call list, they should not be calling your home. They are provided a list of all the numbers that are part of this. You should also add your cell phone numbers just in case to the list because I heard they are now calling cell phones too. I added mine and all of my family's telephone numbers and cell phone numbers awhile back. If you tell them the first time and they call again, you can report them and they will get in trouble because they are not supposed to be calling your number at all.

Re: A growing trend in telemarketers?
My DH is funny with those calls. We are on the do not call registry and still get them.
He politely states that we are on the do not call list and wish not to be called.
Then he goes on to say-thank you for wasting my time dumbazz!
