A few questions Re: yogurt and berries

Sadie will be 7months old on Sunday and is on Nutramigen for a milk protein allergy.

My ped is very laid back, but tends to always tell me to start things on the "later" side.

Sadie is INSANE with wanting to eat whatever we eat and we have to hide from her. She already eats whole puffs, bits of bread, baby mum mum, etc.

Ped said wait till closer to 8 months to try yogurt and meats.

What did you all do? I want to try and add the third meal (lunch) and I am unsure what to give her. She gets oatmeal and fruit for breakfast and cereal and veggies for dinner.

Also I totally forgot to ask about berries. When can she have strawberries, rasberries and blueberries?

Re: A few questions Re: yogurt and berries

We tried yogurt at 6 months but Kaydyn had a reaction to it so we held off until after 1 year.

I'm not sure when we started berries...I know a lot of the stage 2 foods have berries in them (I know it was before 9 months because we had a ped appt and we let them know she had a reaction to strawberries)

We used to do fruit and cereal in the morning, veggies, fruit and cereal for lunch, and a meat and veggies for dinner and if she was still hungry a little later we would give her 1/2 a container of fruit as "dessert"

Re: A few questions Re: yogurt and berries

Ds had a milk allergy and we held off with yogurt until he was a year old.
I am pretty sure that I was pureeing blueberries for him prior to one year old but I don't think I did strawberries until after one year old. I was giving DS little bits of chicken, pasta, bread, veggies, pancakes, and I'm sure lots of other stuff at around 8-10 months old.

Re: A few questions Re: yogurt and berries

Liam gets 3 meals a day. He has meats.

breakfast-fruit and sometimes cereal

lunch-veggies and sometimes rice/cereal

dinner-meat dinner stage 2 (chix & sweet potato, the mixes).

He too has the baby mum mums & puffs (not a huge puff fan yet)

haven't tried yogurt yet but I'm game.

Re: A few questions Re: yogurt and berries

we started yogurt at 6 months (ped. schedule).

he was also getting berries at 6 months but only when it came pureed in a jar - no whole berries.

since then he's had fresh blueberries, no other fresh berries.

meats we started, i think, around 7 months? i can't remember. but he was not a fan until i started giving him cold cuts - he is a ham and turkey freak Chat Icon now he loves cut up chicken too.

at 7 months i would have no problem with starting yogurt but with a milk protein allergy i don't know.

ETA: since at that time he was still on 4 bottles, he only got 2 meals. at 8 months when he went down to 3 bottles, we added a meal.

LB, thanks... Sadie is still on 4 bottles as well and I cant see eliminating one in the near future.

Maybe I will stick with my current schedule and let her try yogurt as a snack after her late am bottle.

I just want to have a set schedule so I can tell my mom and MIL what to do with her during the day.

i think that is a great idea. when DS turned 8 months old i noticed he wasn't finishing any of his bottles, so we just took one away and he's been fine since.

are you going to try soy yogurt?

oh and keep in mind that even if she isn't allergic to regular yogurt it might cause a few diaper blowouts - it really cleans out their systems Chat Icon

Re: A few questions Re: yogurt and berries

I started yogurt and blueberries at 8 months. I don't intend to give DS any other berries until he's 1. From what I've read, blueberries are in a different category from strawberries and raspberries and there isn't the same allergy concerns.

For lunch, I give DS yogurt with some fruit or a combination of fruits and/or vegetables. I started giving DS 3 meals per day at 7.5 months.

Re: A few questions Re: yogurt and berries

Ryan has a milk protein allergy as well, and is also on Nutramigin. Our ped told us to hold off on all dairy products until 10 months. We just recently started him on cheese, yogurt, ice cream etc... So far so good. We have an appointment with the gastro Friday so we'll see how it goes.

We were given the all clear for berries at 9 months. I thought it would be later but basically at our 9 month appointment we were given permission to try anything other than milk, shellfish, honey and nuts.

I'm in the same boat with the allergy so if you ever have any questions feel free to FM :)

My ped said to wait and start yogurt and meats around 7.5 to 8 months. DS is only 6 months, but I asked at his last checkup. So you started the puffs already? When did you start that?

I give her the happy babies organic puffs. At first I broke them in half and she never gagged or choked so I gave her whole ones and she loves them!!!

Baby mum mum is great too.. those it says they can have as soon as they are ready for solids.
