A few questions about acupuncture
First question .. if you go for it, how long are your sessions? I went tonight for my first time and it lasted 30 minutes. I'm wondering if this is standard.
Also, has anyone found they did not relax during the treatment? This was only my first one.. but I have to say.. I felt no different than if I was to just lay in my room with the lights off and some music on- and I can do that for A LOT LESS MONEY than acupuncture! Hopefully I see some improvement in my lining and egg quality, at least.
Anyone else find they weren't really able to relax during the treatment? The acupuncturist said that's common for the first time and that you get used to it- but I'm curious nonetheless.

Re: A few questions about acupuncture
For me, it took 4 acupuncturists to finally get to have that feeling of "floating" relaxation that everyone talks about. With the 4th one I felt relaxed from the very first appointment. I'd give it a couple of more tries though and then decide, because maybe you were just too nervous.

Re: A few questions about acupuncture
are you going to SIRM for accupuncture?
i went to accupuncture to 2 different people. One was chinese guy who rented a chair at some massage salon and i hated it. First, he could not understand a word of English i was saying. Second, place was filthy and accupuncure hurt. Second one was a very hyped over woman, who specializes in infertility, she is in flatiron. Her office was nice and fancy, needles did not really hurt, but it was pricey ( i think about $130 per session). so i stopped.

Re: A few questions about acupuncture
the first few times i was very relaxed. the last couple of times ive been busy and stressed and trying to squeeze in the acupuncture appt. so to answer your question, no, sometimes i dont feel relaxed. yesterday, the doc put SEVEN needles in my FACE!! i didnt feel a thing, just a little pain near my jaw where the TMJ is really screwed up. but my boss had called me before walking into the appt so i was stressed during the session.
i didnt know youre supposed to feel like you're floating...

Re: A few questions about acupuncture
When I first left the appt I thought it was "ok", but the more I think about it, the more I feel like I would rather of spent that hour in my own bed with the lights off and my own choice of music ... and no needles. I just didn't see what the big deal was. I hate to be a downer- maybe my expectations were unrealistic but I was expecting to feel different in SOME way... all I felt was impatient to get those needles out and be on my way! Maybe this just isn't for me ... but like I said, I'm willing to try anything- so I'll do it for one cycle and see if I get any improvement.

Re: A few questions about acupuncture
I coulnd't get into it. I only went once and spent the hour thinking about all the other things I could be doing in that time. Plus the chick was a flake. So, I never tried again. I prefer massages for relaxation!

That's exactly what I was doing!! I kept thinking "man I would love to be laying in bed watching Desperate Housewives reruns!!"

Re: A few questions about acupuncture
It might not be for you but I would definately give it a few tries and maybe even a different person. Who are you seeing? I found that once I started raking sone deep breaths and really relaxing while I was there I felt amazing! I would fall asleep and feel almost euphoric when I woke up! I realized how even when I thought I was relaxed I really wasn't, I literally had to breath and close my eyes and let my whole body go. I wish I had the self motivation to learn to meditate.

Re: A few questions about acupuncture
I think I fell asleep last week when I went for acupuncture. My doctor told me that was normal and that is what he was hoping for. I always get really relaxed. I do get ansy at times and toward the end Im wondering how much longer. My mind also sometimes wonders to what I have to do and where Im going after I leave, but I think that is due to holiday stress. It may take a few times and the right person for it to work and it also may not be for you.

Re: A few questions about acupuncture
Thanks everyone I have another appointment tomorrow. Based on where I am in my cycle, he suggested I come back tomorrow and one day next week.
Hopefully it will be different now that I know what to expect.

Re: A few questions about acupuncture
Who knows if there was a connection or not, but I got a BFP during the IUI cycle I was having acupuncture treatments. I never felt truly "relaxed" during the sessions but I continued to get the acupuncture treatments because I heard of so many success stories of people getting pregnant while going through acupuncture treatments. I think there is some research to back it up too, at least with regard to IVF. And I am a total needle-phobe too!

Re: A few questions about acupuncture
The first appt I had was a short one, only 30 minutes to see if I liked it. I felt really relaxed when I was there but I was tired to, so that helped. I try to make my appts early on a sat or right after work when I know I will be exhausted so I can get a nap in. The room is dimly lit so that helps to. The music sort of luls me to sleep. Now, don't get me wrong there are days I am there and I can't wait to get the hell out of there, like today. For the most part I did see improvements in my cycle. When I am going I never spot brown anymore at the beginning of my af and i feel like it's less crampy too.

Re: A few questions about acupuncture
my fist appointment, i felt drunk.... i was so relaxed, i wa sknocked out..
not every time do i fall asleep but i always relax.
i went yesterday and i felt AMAZING after!!! I have been having severe back pain, so she did some points for that, and I have been swelling, today my feet went down. plus i have no back pain.
and afterwards she massaged my sinuses which was just fantastic, i could feel them opening up.
I love my acupuncturist!!! I also love that she is a chiropracter too!!! Plus I can get massages there too!!
i love going!!
i was there an hour and a half yesterday.
