We have one in DC's room. We probably won't keep it running all night long (so far he doesn't even sleep in his own room) but I think it's good to have it in there to cool down the room before he goes down for the night.

That's a great point, thanks!

Re: a/c in baby's room?
better to have a/c than have a steamy room during the night...
My guess would be that an 80+ degree room with high humidity would increase SIDS chances, while a chillier room (say 70) would keep them perkier as they slept...

Re: a/c in baby's room?
we have one because it was there already.
we rarely use a/c at all unless it is REALLY hot and humid. i'll use it for DS if it's too hot because if i'm uncomfortable, i'm sure he will be as well.
we also have a ceiling fan in his room so we'll probably use that as well

Re: a/c in baby's room?
I plan to use it. We live in a condo, which is really warm, and my ped said he is more concerned about a warm room than a cool one. I also would imagine that the white noise might help DD sleep.

Re: a/c in baby's room?
We had an A/C for DD's room last summer - although she slept in her bassinet with us. Honestly it is better to have it cool than for them to overheat. You can always dress them warmer for the a/c

I have central air. We didn't keep it cold but it was very comfy...I also put a little hat on her head and she was swaddled.

Re: a/c in baby's room?
We will put one in. The room her nursery will be in gets EXTREMELY hot in the summer time.

Re: a/c in baby's room?
we have one in the twins' room. When it gets really hot, we'll turn it on about an hour before we put them in there. Then when they go in, we'll turn it off and start a fan that will circulate the air. Basically, keeping it cool, without keeping it freezing

Re: a/c in baby's room?
I would not keep one on overnight but I think it's a great idea to get the room cool before putting the baby in. We do not have one in the kids room because we keep the LR AC on and keep the room to that door open. The way our house is set up it gets cool enough in there especially with the ceiling fan. On the REALLY hot summer nights we would bring Kiera into our room to sleep in the a/c.

Re: a/c in baby's room?
If you don’t have one yet and are planning on it i would suggest the newer energy sufficient ones that you can set the temperature and then it will go off and on to maintain that temp. This way you can set it higher if you want. We changed all of them in the house to those and we just out on eon the wall for the eventual nursery!

They say that over heating an infant while sleeping causes them to sleep deeper, which may increase the chance of SIDS.

well, it's my guess.... becuase there is thought to be a link between a baby overheating and SIDS... ex. they're not supposed to sleep with their hats on when the the rest of their body is covered in layers...
It just make sense that high temps / humidity may exasperate that situation...
