is he in the carpenter's union? my father and brother are and were always able to file for wormen's comp. and disability when they were injured on the job. if he's a private guy, it may be on you, but if it happened on a job (not his own) he should be able to file for at least workmen's comp.

oh no for a speedy recovery!!! My DH was a self employed carpenter for years & this stuff gives me goose bumps. I'm sure you guys have already thought of all of this but maybe in a couple of weeks he can get a short term job as a driver or maybe an estimator for another company. There are tons of highly skilled guys looking for work right now. maybe he can find someone really good that can fill his shoes, he can supervise them on his jobs until he's better? I purchased disability insurance through my job for me husband a few years ago. The coverage isn't huge but its something. Now he doesn't do the actual labor but I still worry.
