A & A breathable blankets
I should start by saying I am ultra paranoid. I bought a few of the security blankets from A&A. I put one in the crib at night while my DS falls asleep and remove it before I go to bed. Lately he is up all night but as soon as I give him the security blanket, he is back to sleep. Are they safe? My DS is 6 1/2 months old and plays peek a boo with it so I know the lifts it up and throws it anyway. I am not sure what the rule is on breathable blankets.

My answer may not be "correct" but its what I would think of & do if I was in your situation....
Does you DS roll over in the crib at night? When my DS learned to roll over in his sleep I felt more comfortable putting something in the crib with him. By then I felt that his breathing reflex was stronger.

Re: A & A breathable blankets
I've been using these since my ds was 4 months. He needed something to rub against his face while sleeping. I too was paranoid about letting him sleep with it but he couldn't sleep without it. No matter how many times I moved it he would put it right back near his face. When he was 6 months I finally felt comfortable with letting him sleep all night with it and we've had no issues. My ds can't sleep without it. I wouldn't worry, it's breathable. He will be fine. It's what they are made for.

DS was swaddled in these until a little over 6 mos, then he just used it as a regular blanket. I felt completely comfortable with him using blankets once he was able to roll over NP on his own.

are you talking about the swaddle blankets?
around 5.5 months we gave DD a small taggy blanket as her lovey, she liked to rub her cheek with it when falling asleep, and still uses it now at 13 months.

They're "breathable." He's fine! In cold weather, have you ever fallen asleep with a blanket over your face? Or breathed through a scarf when you're bundled up outside? You could still breathe just fine. An A&A blanket is a million times more breathable than either of those.
I'm super paranoid too, though. My silly secret: Sometimes when I worried about putting something in the crib with DD, I'd put it over my face and breathe and make sure it was really easy. Try that and you'll feel better!

Re: A & A breathable blankets
They also make security blankets that are 16x16 inches if that would make you feel better:

I was just going to suggest this. At just about 3 years old, my son is still obsessed with his A & A blankets.
Before they came out with these little ones with the satin lining, we had cut a few of the bigger blankets into quarters and hemmed the rough edges. He now uses both his "big" and his "little" to sleep.
