If you were given cervidil...can you please come in?

I just found out I'll need to have cervidil the afternoon before my induction - so basically it will be at least 12 hours before the Dr. starts the pitocin, and of course I didn't think of a bunch of questions about this until after I left my doctor, so I was hoping some of you girls could give me some insight?

how long after the cervidil did you start active labor?

did you husband stay with you at the hospital the night you got it, or just come back in the morning?

do they let you walk around and go to the bathroom yourself once you get it?

do they let you eat or drink anything after you get it?

how long after the cervidil did you start active labor? It was administered at 8:50 am and I had contractions every 3 minutes starting at 6:30 pm

did you husband stay with you at the hospital the night you got it, or just come back in the morning? My husband went home late that evening and came back the next morning

I was able to go to the bathroom and walk around

I got it at 9:00pm contractions started the next morning (very mild). My husband didn't stay that first night.

I could get up. I had 2 doses. They let me eat at around 1:00 the next day which my docrot freaked about because I wound up having an emergency c-section.

thanks for the responses...I get terribly nauseous if I don't eat every few hours so I am completely panicking about this. I am also worried that I'll be one of those people that goes really fast overnight and my husband will miss being there!

i get awfully nauseous if i don't eat every couple hours too. When i was at the hospital i constantly ate the ice chips and popsicles to keep my sugar up. I wound up not eating anything for at least 36 hours and i was actually fine :)

I didn't have cervadil though, when i went in for my induction i was already in active labor.

If you have concerns you should call the doctor. Do you have a medical need for induction? If not you may want to wait to go into labor on your own.

Got the cervidal at 5pm Monday night...were going to give me another dose Tuesday at 5AM but I was contracting on my own...water broke at 7am

Yes....he went home about 6AM to shower and change thinking nothing much was happening....by the time he came back my water broke.

I could walk around and go to the bathroom but was not allowed to eat or drink a thing

about an hour - i heard this is not the norm. that it throws you right into active labor, but it did for me

yes, dh stayed since i was in labor pretty quickly after. he was planning on going home but the nurses told him to stay after i started my contractions.

they said i could get up after they took it out .

nope, just ice chips

I was admitted on a Wed night and had Cervidil inserted at 5pm. I had to stay in bed for 2 hours but then I was able to get up and move around. I was also allowed to eat but I had eaten an ealry dinner prior to coming to the hospital and I also was so afraid of pooping during labor that I was afraid to eat anything else at that point I had some water and ice chips. My husband went home and they gave me a sleeping pill around 10pm but they called him to come back around 3-4am because my contractions were like 3 min apart. Unfortunately they slowed by the morning and my doctor had to break my water and start pitocin the next afternoon. By 3:30 the next day I was ready to push and after 2 hours my daughter was born.

I didn't. I was given Cervidil at 8pm, was tired, and went to sleep. Woke up in the morning to ZERO change - still tight as a clam.

He left and came back the next morning.

I think it was after 2 hrs that you could go to the bathroom if you needed to. (I didn't went right to sleep after the news) But they often give the Cervidil at night when you will be sleeping so that it will stay in and do its work. Its a suppository and gravity will work against it.

I had water and hard candies. I don't think I asked for anything else. Then in the morning the Pitocin started and no I couldn't eat.
But again, no labor started from the Pitocin either!

I went in around 8pm and they gave me the cervidal around 9. I could get up to go to the bathroom but that is it. I was very uncomfortable from the bed and from the contractions but was not in active labor. I had a hard time sleeping and the nurse did not offer me a sleeping pill until 5am --I didnt know to ask for one. She kept coming in to fix the monitors that kept moving because I was so restless.
My husband slept on the uncomfortable bed chair the whole time.
By 8am I was still not dilating and the doctor gave me the option of more cervidal or a c-section. I chose the C and had her at 11:12am. She was a big baby and they told me after the fact that I would not have been able to deliver her any other way!

If the nurse would have given me the sleeping pill earlier, I would have had a much better experience but if the doctors are right, for me the end result would have been the same.

Got Cervidil at 5:15 went into active labor very quickly...nurse said it was not typical, but I was in a lot of pain for 8 hours after the cervidil

Yes...until you get the epidural you can walk around. I needed to me monitored, and they even took the monitors off for a while to let me get out of bed

My dr. said "very rarely" does cervidil cause you to go into labor (Haha) and sent my dh home because at 10 am they were going to induce me and "it would be a long day" . Needless to say I was cursing everyone for letting me be in labor by myself for hours. I had never had contractions, so what did I know. I should have called dh to wake him!

You are not allowed to get up and go to the bathroom for an hour or two ( I forget)

do they let you eat or drink anything after you get it? I was able to drink, although the IV bag had me going to the bathroom often, which was annoying when you are hooked up to monitors.

how long after the cervidil did you start active labor? ...they told me only 1% f women go in to active labor w/ cervidil and apparently I was one of those 1%. I went in to full labor within an hour. ETA: my labor then lasted 22 hours and I had an emergency c/s

yes - they just told me if it fell out to let them know so they could gvive me another one

Ugh, this is my nightmare! So what happened......did you need a C-section?

My cervadil was given at 7pm, i was contracting at midnight. I was then in active labor for 17 hrs.

My DH did stay overnight with me. He slept in a chair.

I was allowed to get up and go to the bathroom but nothing to eat or drink..

I had cervidil.
Apparently when i went in for induction, i was having contractions.
They put the cervidil in and all you can do is lay there. I had to pee, so they used a bed pan. I dont remember at what point they started pit. but my water broke on its own approx 8 hours after cervidil was put in.
there was no walking around, sticktly bed. That part stunk.
